Any noticeable gains in fuel economy, smoother running etc? I have idexed the plugs on my EF using copper washers, cant say I have noticed any improvement but every little bit helps.

Grimketel yep that as well in most chambers the flame front is more eficatious.
Indexing works but it's a pain to get to in the BA,so i haven't.

Does anyone know why ford went to shorter plugs after the ED? There seems to have been a suggestion in this thread to use earlier model plugs in the later models, but why did ford change? They seem to have gone all out to reduce pinging, with 10deg less advance, shorter plugs and a knock sensor. Did they really increase the compression ratio that much?

Better of sticking with the longer projected plugs for EA/ED heads. No point installing smaller projected plugs found on EF/ELs. I posted a pic on pg2 too show the difference between the 2 types of plugs. Cheers...

i take it the rest of your ignition system is %100 new and in perfect order with a good voltage at the coil +. if not, you're wasting your time playing with plugs. |

ok what about going for the autolite 985 plug,or is the ed xr6 plug different and may improve performence.cheers

However, i wonder whether ford used shorter plugs to try to reduce knocking, or for some other reason, such as piston clearance?

Would using an MSD blaster ss coil and a larger gap mean that LPG would burn quicker, and therefore less advance would be needed, and therefore the car would run better as a dual fuel?

I'm not an expert on LPG, increasing burn rate i won't comment on. But, using a higher output coil and a larger gap will be beneficial. |

Spark plugs don't directly change the burn rate, however their positioning affects the geometry of flame propogation which affects the mass burning rate (ie the amount of mixture burning at once, but not the actual speed at which the flame travels).
