my ed is running thermo fans but they dont come on untill the temp reaches r in normal..
im running an 87 deg c thermostat and while cruising (fans off)the temp sits just above the n and the temp only gets to the r when stuck in traffic.. i use the nulon concentrate coolant 50% mix.. |

well any engine will suffer some sort of power loss in the hot weather heat soak ect..
like today the ambient temp is 40 deg c so before your engine even gets warm the air going into the engine is already 40 deg.. and yes.. my car suffers from performance loss in this heat.. but the water temp always stays under the m... from memory my thermostat is a tridon 87 deg c...got it from peps.. |

I wouldn't be worried about it, I went up a mountain yesterday, it was 38c, and it got over halfway.
I work nights and I drive 10km to get home, and my guage hasn't gotten out of the blue by then.

Its like it goes into a save mode where it doesnt allow you to hurl the thing In the cool of the night, yep, goes like stink....but a hot 38c day, not so goey. All the different cars I've had, had all been like that....same goes for the bikes too.

hay there i have a turbo ea with au xr6 4.0 conversion with wolf computer and thermos .computer switches fan on at 84 and turns them off when engine water temp hits 78. in taffic or normal driving or even hard driving temps stay in that 78 to 85 range but realy in hot weather temps can rise to 88 or even 90 stuck in traffic and inlet manifold temps off 45 degrees + once thermos on for a bit or road speed increases things cool down a bit but not much and as with all cars in hot weather she dont go so good cheers kev psi taxi

the only thing a higher concentrate of coolant will do is give better corosion protection..
cooling wise i dont think it will do anything extra.. |

uniacidz wrote: Thaks guys for getting back to me. Had the car for a year now and got a new radiator and air con compressor due to a lil accident (front right end) and is a labour or love and a steep learning curve also. Dunno if the thermostat was changed though so i might just do it anyway and do a full flush. One more question Does a higher concentration of coolant help with reducing temps or doesnt it make a difference? More coolent addadtive means higher boiling point and lower freesing point of degrese celisious but will not affect engine performance. In hot temps your engine will loose performance over running against cool temps and humidity levels.

if you want to keep your engine temp a littler than std??
ask for a thermostat to suit the ed but with a opening temp of 87 deg c (std one is 91 deg c) and the rubber seal.. as there is no gasket, just a rubber seal that goes around the outer of the thermostat.. |

I recently changed my thermo stat and i am rolling with the clutch fan, and my aircon doesnt work and i just reach the R in a longer drive but normally it jumps to "O" Early and alters around that area

Get this. My EB sits just above the blue. Gets up to the R when doing Burnouts and stuck in traffic. I have my fans Wired in so I have to turn them on manualy at the moment.
Is this just because of the colder climate over here in new zealand? My old mans V8 runs the same temp. |

Could be cooler climate, could also be how your using the fans i have a Davis Craig thermo sensor so mines set at a certain temp all the time, i cant just switch on when im haven fun but my temp gauge barley rises normaly but run it hard and she heats up to past half almost three quarters, in saying that it cools down fast when i stop and drive normal
