Just want to know what would be some of the signs of either of these sensors failing or starting to play up?

TPS, someone just had this drama, do a search, should come up, O2 sensor, rough idle, excessive fuel consumption, do a diagnostic, will tell you, whether it running rich or lean, is a doco on here, about how to test your ECU, and read the codes.

TPS not necessarily easy to diagnose, particularly on a 5 speed. Mainly used for throttle enrichment, so spluttering or erratic acceleration (i.e. running too lean or too rich under steep throttle).

TPS signal wire should be about 0.98V with no throttle, about 5.0V will full throttle... and should be steady increase in voltage in between 0 and 100% throttle.

O2 sesnor, giveaway is poor fuel economy, might run like s**t at idle/cruising throttle... check error codes from ECU, "constant rich" or "constant lean" error.... O2 output should be switching between 0.1 and 0.9 volts when crusing under low/medium engine load...

Is it realistic to just change the O2 sensor? It has been on my mind to not bother about checking the codes etc. and just bunging a new one in. How long does it take for the computer to realise and readjust?
Does it make a noticeable difference to fuel economy? Just wondering.

Yeah, i think you get them for about $80. Pull the old one out, stick the new one in.

Probably best to disconnect the battery for a while, as the ECU would have learnt some 'bad habits' as the o2 started to die.

I would make a big difference to fuel economy if the o2 was indeed stuffed. It's the main sensor for light throttle driving.

Can anybody tell me exactly where to find these 'Relearn Procedures'

Ive never had any luck finding them on here, and any other info i have found on the net has been absolutely useless... Things like shifting with the car on ACC between gears etc....

Same deal for the TPS....

As for resetting the ECU, numerous times i have disconnected the battery overnight and there has been NO change at all in the way the car drives, i also notice no change over time as in the car adapting to my friving style...

the reason i want to find out what does what is becuase when i accellerate it will hit about 2000rpm and between 2000 - 3500rpm it has a big flat spot then will go likea bat out of hell after that. it happened since i had the extractors and hi-flow cat fitted.

i would replace the O2 sensor you never know what they could have done to it while taking it of or putting it on. and it just so happens to be just as you get extractors and exhaust

mines being showing those signs, erratic acceleration, and spluttering, i beilive it has to be the TPS, im going to try fixing it ASAP
