im having issues programming a pair of remotes to my dads "96" el fairmont wagon. putting it simply. it wont go into learn mode. tried doing it as stated in the tutorial on here, but with no success.
when dad bought the el, there wasnt a remote with it. so im trying to make it work to make full use of the central locking system. both remotes are from smartlock cars that were wrecked. so neither has been used on this car yet does it matter that the rear dimister isnt hooked up? if so i may have to fix it so i can get the remotes going. rear dimister has a wire broken off the glass and i left it to be found for rwc but it passed with it broken. and i havent bothered to fix it yet as im hardly at my parents sorry for the noob q's first time ive had to nut it out as my eb doesnt have dumblock.. but im glad it doesnt in a way as dad has gotten another bem for when the module wants to play funny buggers |

as long as the switch is connected, it will work.
Gen in car and shut the doors. Turn ignition to ACC instead of ON Press the Demister 3 times, ON-OFF-ON within 5 seconds, not within 1 second. wait for the door locks to cycle and then press 'any' button on the first Fob, let the door lock cycle and then press the next remote. Turn the car off and those 2 are done. Make sure the correct switch is wired to the correct button, make sure there's no blown fuses. I've never encountered one that cannot learn.

problem fixed..
got the el to enter learn mode finally. got it to enter and turned it off without programming to wipe any other fob codes. as we dont know how many had been trained to that bem. also eliminates a previous owner getting access if they only have a spare remote that used to be programmed to the bem. but thats highly unlikeley as its a qld car, was sold down here as the headgasket went on the previous owner. so i got in locked the car. turned to radio and hit the dimist 3 times.. entered learn mode easily. leave the doorlocks unlocked and it didnt want a bar of playing the game. so the rear demist does not have to be connected on the glass to program as i didnt bother to fix it for dad so now he has 2 remotes.. one as a spare if he ever loses one or manages to lock one in the car too. or if one dies he still has his remote central locking useable |
