I have an EB Falcon with a 6 cyl motor and T5 gearbox, coil springs all round. Recently my car has begun vibrations when I lift my foot from the throttle . The vibrations are only in the transmission and only come in at speeds over 80ks . The uni joints are as new as is the gearbox mount , new coils and springs all round. The vibration has only just begun and happened during a trip from Dalby to Brisbane . Any ideas from all you Ford experts . I don't want to breakdown and have a Holden driver pull up to assist me.

Thanks for getting back to me re this problem.I thought that it could be a problem in the tailshaft but because I had replaced both uni joints I thaught that I had prevented a problem of this type but now thinking about it could I have lost balance weights from the shaft because it became a problem while the car was in motion. Not being a motor mechanic I am in "guess"situation

Not being a motor mechanic I am in "guess"situation can be drive yoke that slides in to back of box,or out of balance, did you use cheap unis and fit ok? cheapies will flog out quick.

When replacing the UJ's did you make sure the slip yoke and diff flange (if fitted) was fitted in the original phase? where the UJ's rapped (Struck with mallet on outer of yoke eyes to free joints)? was the driveshaft fitted back in the original position. Did you ensure all the needle rollers in the bearing caps were seated and did not sit at the end of the cap when fitting? If all or one of these steps werent done it can cause a driveline vibration when replacing UJ's. I would suspect that the joints are tight and the vibration highlights when on decelleration causing the diff to tilt forward resulting in a higher pinion angle (this makes the UJ's work harder)

i and a lot of others have this same problem most from replaceing the uni joints, mine only vibrates on deceleration from above and cruizing at 90 but all the people i have spoken to say the shaft needs to be rebalanced after the uni joints have been replaced.
i've been quoted 110 to 125 and there the only two places i can get it done. no one can tell me why ,its just one of those things,i was also told by a diff and trans specialist that the position on reinstallation don't matter. make of what you will but i will be getting mine rebalanced as soon as i can afford it.

This is why its important to ensure the steps are followed as i stated in my last post. The driveshaft must be reinstalled in the original position to maintain the factory system balance. This is the reason for the Yellow dots on both ends of the drivehshaft. They meet up with the markings on the trans output shaft and the diff flange when fitted at factory. Ive attached some examples of the yellow dots that are applied to both current level Ford 1 and 2 piece driveshafts, these dots also apply to the E series shafts.

Thanks fellas for your time to post your thoughts, much appreciated.
I have had thoughts re the tailshaft balance because the vibration came on suddenly . The uni joints seem ok but I will pull the shaft off to carry out a closer inspection .I would like to get hold of another tail shaft to do a test but out here in the bush they are not easy to come by and I think the auto and manuals are different .The vibration comes up in all gears and even in neutral. |

so your rolling along in neutral and you have the vibration,or it vibrates will the car stationary ?

i had the same thing very recently i replaced the diff and gearbox oil, both unis, had the shaft balenced the lot and after all that it still shook. my vibration came from no where also. i drove it from newcastle to melbourne with it shaking like a b**ch then it felt like something just fell off kind of like whenn you over wind a rubber band and it snaps and it disapeared. my missus asked if we should go back and see if there was anything on the road but i told her whatever it was it could stay there. just drive back and it may dissapear who knows
