United Servo's sell Boost98.
10% ethanol and 98 octane. If I try to put more than 4-degrees of inital advance into my Courier ute, it'll rattle on standard unleaded. With 95 octane in the tank it's a lot happier but can still be made to rattle if you try. With the ute well loaded plus 600 kg of trailer hanging off the back, it should be rattling like nobodies business but with a tank full of Boost98 it pulled over Bell's Line and back again without one single rattle heard. Forget the consumption figures for this trip. It wasn't rattling and that's more important. |

I filled up once with extreme 100, and it pinged like a f**k for pretty much the whole tank...seems my ECU was a bit slow on the uptake

We dont get that higher octane fuel here in W.A ,but on a current affair about a week ago testing the higher octane fuels gave only a small power increase and no noticeable power increase on a standard car . Cars that are tuned to run on the higher octane fuels gave similar results but testing felt the to idle and run smoother. The conclusion was that it wasnt worth the extra cost.

Ive actually noticed that My AU seems to go a bit harder and a lot smoother when i put extreme optimax in.

If you didn't mean bearings, then don't say it. Don't rubbish something without educated proof and/or experience. Ford also don't like it if you change the exhaust on your still warrantied car. It's called 'covering your a***', and lawyers invented it. I haven't run it, because a) There's no Shells in my local area and. b) The extra expense. c) I'm happy with how my car runs on Ultimate. But I'm not rubbishing something I haven't tried, and have no proof is dangerous.

pretty sure i read that shell optimax extreme 100 octane will be the official fuel of the v8 supercars as opposed to the optimax 98 they ran last year. can't be all bad if this is the case although supercar engines prolly do get rebuilt every race meet or 2. i'll just stick with the ultimate for now.

My old man has an XR6 Turbo and he got the itch to fit an aftermarket exhaust. He called the dealer where he purchased the car and they said that they "love" people who fit good quality aftermarket exhausts to their cars and that it WOULD NOT void the warranty. The exhaust gave him a 10rwk increase in power... |

It was just a generalised point mate.
Interesting that they still warranty an exhaust on an XR6T. I would have said that's the one car they definately wouldn't cover. But this has SFA to do with optimax extreme, so I'll shut up now

so brazil who use 70% ethanol in their vehicles are in trouble eh? They've been using it since the 1960's or something like that in their VWs....
i've been running 5% ethanol in my car for about 3 years now. The fuel lines leak each morning on the way to work and catch on fire when it hits the cat convertors. Very frustrating..I blame the ethanol. I believe it ate the carpet in the floor of the car so now I can see the road when I drive through the interior of my car!?!? No wonder ethanol fuel is bad. Its about time ACA did a story on it, it should be banned like alcohol in general. Or we could realize that 5% ethanol is fine for your car, its rated at about 94 which means smoother revving and a few more k's out of the tank and by the time the 4th owner of your car from you has it in their possesion, the fuel lines may show some sign of being eaten...who gives ? E10 fuel is alot better than that friggin 91 unleaded garbage.

I tried it and can't say I could tell any difference to Optimax.
I ran a dyno day on Optimax extreme and came back 5rwkw DOWN on power. 139 versus 144 on Optimax!! Same dyno different day quite a bit hotter day too so maybe other factors involved. I did ask Spiro who tuned the unichip for me on optimax and he did say you would need to retune the chip to get the best out of it and he had seen 10rwkw gains on the same dyno. For the cost I didn't see any benefit. Tune to run extreme and then have to run extreme all the time. Too expensive! |

That's what I've been trying to say on this thread and on other threads about premo and optimax. I'm sorry, but unless your car is tuned for it, I don't understand how people are "noticing" power gains.... |

I went to the extreme (lol) and I was able to advance the timing another 2 degrees without pinging compared to normal ultimate.

I thought the octane rating was logrithmic? Could be wrong. |
