sometimes my car has trouble starting it cranks over strongly but it dont start have to crank about 15 times before it start, it never does it when its cold only if i been driving it then leave it for a bit and try start it up again. even when cold it takes about 5 cranks to start. wot should i look at?

What does the car go like once started?

Most comonly this is a spark problem. So go ahead and check you spark plugs, leads, and also your coil pack.

If after that you are still having problems, Id be checking your Fuel pump (when you turn the key onto on, there should be a click the fuel pump should sound[you CAN hear it], and after 2 seconds turns of again.) the fuel pump is unlikely though, if the car runs fine after starting.

Have you ever tried opening the throttle a bit when starting the car? if this has worked - then you need to clean your ISC, and throttle body.

Some other things to check - fuel filter, injectors, fuel pressure, air filter, and check for sparks at the end of the leads...

*EDIT* - Forgot to mention, that if none of that works, or should I say if everything above is fine, then the next things Id be suspicious of relays, if one of the fuel pump relays, or ignition relays is playing up, then obviously your car won't start until it does work. Check the earthing of these relays... they are under the bonnet, under a black cap help on by 1 screw near your battery.

The only other out of whack thing I can think of is smartlock, but that's not likely.

ok it still happening i cleaned throttle body etc . fuel always sounds ok when it happens and the car runs good once its started. i went and measured resistances of leads and coil pack. please tell me if these figures are ok coz i dont know but there doesnt seem anything real wrong with the

My folks EF GLi has become a pig of a thing to start with symptoms similar to these. We were told it's because the injectors may be clogged up. The coil pack has been replaced (due to an unrealted fault: one of the heater lines ruptured and leaked into it) and that didn't improve things much so in our case at least, it's not likely to be the ignition system. Not sure if it helps, but it's something to check.

might try that. anyone tried blowing injectors out with air compressor would it work if their clogged up. just dont like paying for stuff when its just a guess

You could try some of that in-fuel injector cleaner. It's no substitute for a proper clean or brand new injectors by any means but it's it may just dislodge enough of the crap to check.

Ive heard of people blowing injectors through with an air compressor. Not sure of the details, but I assumed they applied 12V to open up the valves (fuel injectors) and then blew air through...

I guess that would be a cheap way of doing them. I know the professional places mostly do them with an ultra sonic break down, and other stages too, like reverse flowing or something.

You say you don't wanna spend money on something that might not fix your problem, but this will prevent future problems as it is, and injectors need cleaning. So, its not really a waste, if it doesn't fix your problem.
