Hey guys. Looking at getting twin exhaust on the BA, but the system is made for a turbo.
I've been told I can't run the twin exhaust, as the NA has single outlet cat, turbo has twin outlet. I'm going to be replacing the Cat with a Venom 400 2.5" or 3" 100cpi Cat. Will it fit if I have the cat replaced? None the less, I can still have the exhaust shop customize slightly to make it work. Just wanted to know if it will go on with no worries if I had a different cat.

Exhaust shop will be able to make it fit easy.

Exactly what I thought lol
Just tuffcarparts trying to tell it won't fit at all, and would take a lot of modifying due to the difference in cats...

It's not like TCP is going to benefit from not selling you one.
The exhaust shop will do it, but it may not be cheap. I would've though fitting a turbo cat wouldn't be too hard, or a y-pipe after a normal cat, to match up to the turbo exhaust. |

TCP is just trying to avoid a possible argument about it in the future. Not say you would, but it happens all the time.

It's all good. If there is any mods that need doing to make it fit, they shop will do it.
I just don't think he understood that I was using an aftermarket cat. My initial question was asking whether I would need a 2.5" or 3" cat lol Guess we'll see how much playing around it needs to fit to the cat once both come in. I'd day say there will be minimal pissing around.

Mekanix and exhaust place people give me the sh&^s sometimes - "I want to know if it CAN be done - not if it SHOULD be done!!".

Hahaha my exact thoughts at times mate. No sweat off my back though. I'll get it, and then have it modified if need be.

are you getting a twin 2.25" or twin 2.5"system?
most of the after market systems for XR6T are twin 2.5" which will be overkill for what you need.

It might be - ARGUABLY - overkill - but it certainly won't HURT.
When I was 19 I had a 1980 VC SLE 4.2 Commodore. Day before it was booked to have a "sports system" fitted, I cut the pipes off each side under the driver and passenger side floor. The thing F&^%ing FLEW with those pipes cut off!!! (and except for a certain throttle/rev range sounded exquisitely gorgeous and amazingly quiet). The 2.5 single system that then went on it KILLED IT! - and that was straight thru mandrel bent setup with main muffler and hot dog - was F**k loud too actually - I got f*&ked from all directions - because most of the time it was louder than the damned thing was with the pipes just cut off - but without the power!!! Looking back I shoulda raised bloody hell but at the time I just copped it. I drove my ED for over a decade with a number of different 2.5 inch single systems - any time I tried to ask exhaust places about twin 2.25, twin 2.5 or even twin 2.0 or single 3 inch they grumbled and carried on so much I just dropped it. I now have a Manta single 3 inch V8 system on my I6 EF AND IT GOES F*&KING GREAT!!! (tho I'm gettin old so it's a tad noisier than I'd like - even tho the note is great) - better than any of the 2.5 systems I ever had on the ED - and I don't need a dyno to prove it - you can FEEL it. As it is this Manta system was ridiculously expensive for what it is - but with local exhaust shops almost certain to not just give me what I f*&cking asked for it was less hassle to get the Manta thing from Perth and hand it over pretty much ready to fit (just a little cut and weld at the front and hang it) so they had little to argue with. I still copped attitude and a clearly half hearted / half a*** effort as far as the actual fit goes - f*&king thing hangs down too low etc. - and there IS more than enough room for it to be up a good 2 inches more than it is - will have to try again at some stage to have it hung better. Original plan was to use the Manta twin 2.5 rear section with custom 3 inch forward section but that was just TOO ridiculously expensive and would have required more effort from any exhaust shop I took it to. So as far as I'm concerned there is no such thing as too big - IMO as long as there's a manifold or extractors then that right there is all the "backpressure" - or out of port momentum run that the engine will ever need - ideal from that is straight to atmosphere from the cat - but pipework is a practical necessity - so the bigger the system the better - AMEN! PERIOD! END OF STORY! AND THAT'S FROM F&^KING EXPERIENCE - NOT ARMCHAIR THEORISING... So TheKrazeD - for my money you just knock yerself out and more power to ya man!! I'll aslo point out that a VERY COMMON mod made to Troopies and Patrols etc. amongst the offroad fraternity IS 3 INCH EXHAUST!!

dual 2.5" is way too big, not to mention the extra 15kg of redundant weight...
single 3" system will be the way to go

I've heard 3" systems and I really dislike the sound. They drone at highway speeds and who cares about 15kg? I've been in a falcon that's had a twin 2.5" and holy f**k it sounded nice. Wasn't overly loud, but the note was just pure bliss for a 6.
Overkill? I'm camming and hopefully getting the compression bumped up a little. I'm just trying to future proof without having to redo it all afterwards. Besides, my cat converter has collapsed (rattling when I give it a bang), so it's coming off. I might as well take the old single 2.5" system off and get something a lot better flowing.

I reckon the twin 2.5 will be sweet
You're pretty much right about the 3 inch not sounding particularly great - mine has settled down a lot with a J3 - altho it's never droned, it used to tend to boom and sound overly hollow particularly on light acceleration and I was ready to just chuck a berklee 2.5 back on it, but with the J3 it's lost pretty much all the boom and it's character has changed to more of a deep rumble than hollow boom. I want to put an Aerochamber on it in place of the straight thru perforated pipe type muffler - having a chamber type thing in there should give me back a crisper note again and quiet it a fair bit - and nothing compares to a large chamber for generating deliciously gorgeous deceleration burble! I've got a Galaxy S3 which seems to make very decent recordings - might try and put a clip or two up on Youtube.
