hey i was just thinking about puting twin thermo fans off an el or ef onto my ea. just wondering what exactly has to be changed? will it fit the ea radiator and will i have to change my cars computer. a basic rundown would be great. cheers

The fans wont fit properly to the EA's radiator, shouldnt be too many dramas putting an EF one in there. New radiator never hurt anyone
I wouldnt bother with a new ECU, just get a thermo switch mounted in the cooling system and adjust it to throw the fans on when needed. There's a dozen different ways you could wire the thing up. I'd probably have one on full time and then have the thermo switch turn the other one on. Theres good doco in the fordmods tech section on how the relays work on the EF/EL thermofans... Oh, and of course remove the old clutch fan

EF Radiator have different size inlet and outlet i thought to the EA.
Nearly any re-conditioned radiator has the mount points.

ohh ok. i am really keen on getting this mod done as iv herd that the clutch fan takes power away and not to mention its noisy as all f**k

Nearly any re-conditioned radiator has the mount points. The radiator is the same throughout the range, the only differance is the captive nuts are not on the original EA-EB radiator. IF the radiator has been changed in the past few years there is a good chance it has a late model radiator in it. If it does the thermos will bolt straight in. You will also need a thermatic switch to control them.

Something differant about this radiator hose sizes afterall. When I changed mine I was told it was an EF radiator. Looks like i may have been misinformed, sorry.

Check and see if your radiator has the mounting points. If it does yes it is worth it. If it doesn't then you need to decide if the extra cost of changing the radiator is worthwhile.

Thermo fans can often take away just as much power. I'm running ef twin thermos on mine and when the engage the revs drop a fair bit because of the extra load on the alternator. Although the engine does feeel alot smoother to rev. Deffinately worth the conversion though, my car has kept very cool ever since the were put on. Get EL thermo fans and a davis craig thermo kit, as some/all EF ones are dual speed. No point having one constantly on, just hook them both up to come on at the same time. I cannot notice any difference in my cars power when they turn on but the volts definately drop a little.

I have an EA. I plan to install a set of EL twin thermos this weekend.
I have recently forked out $360 for a hi-po brass tanked 3core radiator and it doesn't have the "captive nuts" or the little tags that the EL shroud slips into. I don't want to get another radiator as this one is so special. *Being a brass radiator. Can I go to a radiator repair shop and get it modified to accept the newer shroud/fans 
*I'm going to use a Davies Craig switch and I was wondering what you people recommend I connect the ignition wire to. (the instructions say not to connect it too anything involving the ECU
*I've mounted the relays and switch in a sealed zippy box I got from d**k Smith. Will it get too hot in there for the relays
*I see that the BPT thermo fan kit uses a colder thermostat. Should I do the same
Apologies if these are faq's but, I searched all through this forum for answers and found some very informative info, but didn't really find what I need to know. Any help anyone can offer will be appreciated.

No use a standard 92deg thermostat, or the engine will run too cold and stay in warmup mode (uses more fuel)

The reason I got the brass tanked radiator was because I live out in the scrub and if something happens I can solder/braze it up myself. So I don't want to change back to plastic, no way. I'll just have to see what can be done when I get it out. Can someone tell me why the BPT thermo kit uses a http://www.norcom.net.au/~bpt/Thermo%20Fan%20Kit.htm colder thermostat. They say it suits electric cooling. Why
