i was just wondering if you can put a typhoon engine in a ef falcon and if possible would i need to change the gearbox, ecu, etc

yeah it can be done. its a simple process called re-engineering the wheel and trying to make a watermelon fit in an apple.

sorry mate the room is just not there to be had and you would need to seriously re-engineer the bulk of the car to do it. just get a Snort kit and blow your SOHC I6.

Well, IF you can get it to fit (there'll be a few dollars just in that), then you'll need an ECU to run it (more money).
You're looking at big dollars.
Just turbo the SOHC.

Arent we a negative bunch. I bet everyone told JetXR the same thing...

As said in the thread I posted it will be difficult but it can be done. The sump wont fit, but neither does the AU sump and that doesnt stop people. The rocker cover will hit the bonnet, but plently of people putting BA bulges on E-series now. ECU will be hard to get working, but plenty of people fitting aftermarket ecu's. Just need someone to do it and document the conversion.

I would say the $ required to get a low km xr6t engine into a e-series wouldnt be much more than what it would cost to do a proper turbo install on the SOHC provided you didnt have to pay someone to do the work.

Is jetxr even road reg'd? and wasnt he selling it? Ba bulge wouldnt help bonnet clearence

Yeah people as a rule graft the bluge onto their bonnet, so to actually cut a hole there and get it right would be bloody hard.
jetxr got defected to all hell afaik, and i think he's selling it as a track car. not sure though.

If you look at pictures of JetXR you can see there is bugger all extra room needed. If you cut the bonnet as JetXR did and then put the bulge over the top it will fit.

Dispite the fact that JetXR was defected (as most high profile performance cars do) it would be FAR easier to get a turbo DOHC legal than a turbo SOHC.

Im not saying its easy, I just dont think its nearly as hard as everybody is making it out to be.

Not necessarily. Just weld like 4 cats into the exhaust to get it through emissions and you're all good :p.
Besides, structural defects (ie cutting into your k frame) are harder to fix than emission ones.

The BA wond necessarily require k-frame modifications. It is probably easier to modify the sump with more slope at the front than it is to modify the frame itself. This has been done to get AU engines into EF/EL's without any k-frame modifcations. There are lots of options that havent been explored and until more people try it we wont know.

My experience with engine conversions is that in SA at least they are more than happy as long as the engine your putting in is newer, of no larger displacement than what was available on the model car its going into, and all the emmisions gear is connected. I honestly doubt you would even need to have a DOHC conversion inspected for reg here.

I thought you could do anything in SA as you don't have the rego check every year and looking at the crap in NSW with SA plates they look dangerous.

If you did it with the right engineer and follow what he said you can do anything.

ive been asking a lot of people about the typhoon engine and they said there is 2 much nm in the engine for the car to work
