yeah......i dunno what timing is....or what it does, how it works and what happens if i do something to it or if its stuffed and i just don't know.......but my friend said that timing could cause fuel consumption?
just want to know more on the mechanical side of things so i can actually fix my car on my own cheers phong =P~

think of the crack rotation, 360 degrees. just before the piston reaches TDC (about 2d off for i6 motors) on the third stroke the ignition goes off and makes the bang that makes you drive really really fast. give it a degree of timing and you'll notice a bit more low down grunt and less in the top. for fast reving engines and turbos they need much more timing to prevent detonation. as well, to give the mix more time to burn so theres not as much wasted power, same idea for the valves
so unless you've got a dam good idea on how it works dont touch it

hmmmm i have never touched the timing and i don't think i ever will. but just wondering.....my car is running like s**t, there seems to be no low end torque and my fuel consumption is throught the roof (main suspect are injectors and o2 sensor).
