Hi all

Ive got a 98 nl fairlane 6cyl and im goinig to lower it but before i did i wanted to get some suggestions off some ppl who might have lowerd there car.

I was looking at a set of ultra low kingsprings and monroe shocks for which they say will lower the car 65-70mm, does anyone know if this is true???? If so would it be at an illegal height?? :?

Or should i stick with superlow springs and shocks?? for a better ride??

Thanks guys :D

ultra lows would make car parks with speed humps and drive ways an a**hole to drive into

On my EF mont i have superlow fronts and ultra low rears
the ride i dont mind it and i dont have too much trouble with driveways and speedhumps
its also just over legal height limit as i was pulled over and cops tried getting me for too low but it passed the rta inspection crap as the lowest part of the car was above 100mm
pic of the car below so you can picture i dont have any side views atm

Also riding on ultras rear and supers front (on gli though) and never had any problems with roadworthy cert or police... And rarely scraped anywhere

in my NF ive got superlows in the front and falcon normal lows (when in a fairlane makes a inbetween superlow and low due to fairlanes are heavier in the rear) and it works pretty well i defiantly wouldn't go lower than superlow i can hardly get jacks under my NF and have to take all driveways on a angles

i use to have falcon superlows all round but it was way to low the rear would always scrape on everything if your going to go superlow in the NL mate get proper fairlane rear superlows

Hey,

I have had both superlow and ultralows in my DF (5.0 V8 with LPG tank in the back) LTD running 19x9.5 front, 19x10.5 rear and with Koni Reds shock absorbers.

Practicality wise, it really depends on the type of roads you drive on and whether the roads will permit the ultralows i.e. how steep are your driveways. Another factor is how strict the cops are around the area.

Emotionally, it depends on far it takes before you are satisfied with a cars looks. With the ulralows, your cars lowest point is the flanges on the exhaust, generally it is the flange at the middle of the car. So eventually, your exhaust will need to be raised as close to the body as possible. The front tires will scrub on the guards and maybe the rears depending on how wide and the offset of the wheels. So you will have to roll the lips of the guards and maybe even use a hammer to more clearance.

You get use to driving with ultralows and how to take some of the driveways and avoiding certain speedhumps. On some extreme roads, you will bottom out on the K frame when driving too fast but at most normal speeds it wont happen.

I didn't get hassled by the cops on my ride height.

As guide this is my old NF V8 Fairlane with 6cyl ultras all round and gas tank in boot, looked sweet, hated speed humps

What is the lowest legal height? With my kit I've for about 140mm clearance at the front and 130mm at the back...

You should be able to fit something that is 100mm under it. 100mm clearance is legal height.

Falcon Superlows in the front, Koni's on the middle spring seat setting, Falcon Ultra low rear with 25mm of spring spacers. Car sits dead level, sills at 110mm front and rear. Cat is substantially lower.

Not sure if it's different laws in different states, but i know in the area im in, the cops or law or who ever does it, measures from the lowest point of the car. So in pretty much every case, the cat needs to be 100mm clearance.

Cheers
