I have no idea if ive put this in the right section. But it has occured to me that my EF does not have underbonnet sound proofing!

Is this a 'common' thing or should thier be sound sound proofing under the bonnet? :? I mean surely the base models had the sound sheild.. Why would they leave it off for the XR's?

Can someone help me with this please..I was thinking about puting my own insulation thier but i dont know if i should or not

Thanks

Andrew

Naa i dont want to put it on really, but i was just curious as to why it doesnt have it in the first place... I dunno it seemed kinda wierd to me i guess

Did they come out the factory like that or something to reduce the cars weight? :?

id say most likely the previous owener removed it for some reason? or is it not being there due to the bonnet vents on xr models?

i got sick of the extra weight causing the bonnet to clobber me every time i went to do anything under the bonnet......

it was also looking a lil ratty, but the weight was the main reason

as for the firewall pads on XF's, i've removed the upper pad, but CBF taking the engine out to get the lower pad out

Yeah most likely it wasnt thier because of the XR vents... buuut thier is still spaces that can be used to place it thier. Should i get some of that Sound Shield matting, it weighs f**k all, and it would keep the engine noise down a bit.

If ur planning on racing it, take it out, but if not, why not put it in and kill some of that engine noise?

As wonderful as the noise may be, it can become a pain in the a***.

Only picture I could find of an EF/EL XR with bonnet up and it doesn't have the sound deadening either, maybe XR's wern't fitted with it, but really it wouldn't be that hard for some idiot at Ford to put a hole in the foam for the vents!

mine was missing too so i just sprayed the under the bonnet with sound dedener, now less engine bay noise you can hear the exhaust sound more and the top of the bonnet is cooler to touch after a long drive.

Is it really a sound shield or a heat shield under the bonnet ? I understood it was the later. And as for the weight, it's bugger all.

Surprises me the number of drivers pulling things off their cars to drop weight - some of these drivers are overweight and for those, it is much more effective to eat healthy and excersise a little as the car has less to pull around.

cheers
