found a few of the cheaper ones someone mentioned but you'll notice they only contain the harmonic balancer and belt, the other link contained the 2 pulleys for alt and water pump

i wonder if you get less increase fitting the balancer and the two pulleys on, compared to just the balancer. cause it might be worthwhile just buying the balancer and then getting the high flow thermostat

Yeah maybe - not sure aye, i thought the extra pulleys were still to make it better and also causing you to not need to change thermo stat - perhaps someone can confirm?

If the water pump and alternator are already over-driven, wouldn't it be better to leave the stock pulleys on them, so they run a bit slower and suck less power? Otherwise, you're only reducing the losses from the power steering and air con, which I imagine would be minimal - at least in a straight line
On the subject, I have heard of racers converting to electic power steering, using the unit out of the Toyota MR2. Has anyone on here seen this? And is there benefit in doing it on a daily driver? Any downsides? Thanks.

electronic power steering pump??, ive never heard of that, ive heard of electronic waterpump, it would be nice to run both water and power steering pumps with electricity, but however you would need either a 2nd battery or a larger alternator to supply power.
i think best way to do it is single harmonic ballancer and then a 91 temp and high flow thermostat.

I have actually asked the guy who sells the kit on this theory so will let you know what his thoughts are on not using the extra 2 pulleys

ok spoke to the guy, he said the 2 extra pulleys are exactly the same size as the stock ones, the reason for replacing them is you may as well make the most of the opportunity when changing the belt, especially because they are a wear and tear item. I guess you could be cheap and buy just the harmonic balancer to save money but i personally would rather do the whole lot while the opportunity is there.
EDIT - The guy has actually offered a group buy on this kit (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... K:MEWAX:IT) so not sure who is interested or how we would organise this but he said to let him know some numbers and then he will be able to give a price. Is there a place in the forums where we can alert people to group buys? Cheers Phil

Cheers Phil Take a look at the sticky under the for sale section for the group buy info and you can't post one up till you have the right permission to do it. |

those 2 extra pulleys are the tensioner and idler pulleys, so nothing to do with underdriving any of the accessories, but yeah it's not a bad idea to change them when you change the belt.
the bearings start to get real noisy. they are real easy to change once the belt is off too.

hmm okey that solves a big question, its probably still a good idea to change the thermostat to a high flow one

i had a look at repco its $150 for the harmonic balancer (just the one pulley, no belts). the part number is HB:1157-N according to the powerbond catalouge on the link someone posted on page 1, this part is a replacement part, and as far as i can read/tell this offers no performance increase at all, its simply just like a generic part
