When the engine is hot the level will raise in the resevoir, when it is cold the level will drop. Keep an eye on it the air should be out of it by now.

Thanks to Timmytimtim, teknoslasher and frd906n for their input.
Brought a new radiator cap from Supercheap 120kpa it looks different to the original one on the plastic bubble. When it cools down I'll take a photo of it and upload here. The original looks sought of bent or twisted but has the ford signature whereas the one from Supercheap is straight. Question is, does the cap need to be original i.e. purchased from ford? Cheers |

If the old one has worn out, it may be letting coolant seep/leak out below the recommended pressure even if the bottle is not overfilled. Only escape route is through the overflow tube. Hope this fixes the problem  .

I thought the factory one was 160kpa? or was it 16psi...

could it also possibly be a block in the overflow pipe, which builds up pressure resulting in a heap of coolant being pushed out? if so it will clean itself up after a bit as the over flow should remove the blockage

G'day all,
Yeah, I had a double check of that cap , she does not look good on clse up inspection, rubber seal is warped and slighly perished on the side. I've replaced the cap and will see how it goes. No blockage in the pipes, I've checked. I'll upload the pics here shortly, to show you all. Cheers |

Well, after replacing the radiator filler cap, some 2 days later, yeah I did notice some coolant loss again, it was half way between maximum and minimum.
I originally filled up to maximum. Maybe it still has an air pocket for some unknown reason or leaking elsewhere, cannot see any internal leaks or external this time round. Any ideas people? Cheers, Peter |

only that it may be leaking into a cylinder...
Will require a compression test to see if it blows air back into the cooling system... Like I said, falcon systems are self bleeding... Once its been hot and the thermostat has open, it should be impossible to have an air pocket anywhere in the system... Thats the whole idea of the separate header tank place higher than the motor... None of your welsh plugs are leaking? Have been under the car and looked up under the manifolds, etc to make sure you can't see nothing from that angle? Cheers, Tim
