i am also going to paint the head. i have cleaned it up and its drying outside my door now. i wont be able to paint it till tomorrow.

i have 2 colours picked out for it. (note angine bay is getting painted flat black the same as the BBM)

black - same as BBM - dark, unique, gives the stealth look im going for

silver - same an TB and fuel rail

im not sure what colour. i think the silver wont look right

i dont this quick copy and paste to show the differences between the old paint and the new paint on the BBM. a little time and not much money does make a HUGE difference

Looks great, I like the flat black better than the gloss myself.

yeah the before paint was done by alted performnce and all i can say is he can not do automotive work and definately cannot paint.

i was sorta weiry about painting the fuel rail ect as my mate done it to my car beofre i bought it in canary yellow and it all chipped off, but i dropped the fuel rail a bit today and it didnt chip off but put a few small light marks on the BBM which i think will wipe off so im pleased with it

ok ended up the engine mount on my gf's car didnt match the one already fitted so she is talking to the mechanic who fitted the mount. but i got home with enough time to give the head 3 coats of paint. i decided in the flat black so the engine bay has a full stealth look. here is some pics.

(this is the head i recieved from Dc_Todd)

dont look at the colour, but i put 2 covers on it to try and decide what style of cover to install.

first is the EA cover which is similar to EA-ED

Image

then the EL cover, similar to EF. AU is a mixture of both. smooth on one side and finned on the right.

cheers mate. not much work went on today. i got the head unbolted except one bolt. i was hoping to leave the rocker gear and cam in place and just remove the complete, but i cant get a propper hold on the last bolt (back passinger side) and i ran out of daylight to finish it, so the heads still on by one bolt. i think im just going to have to remove the rockergear to get it this time. as you can see in the pics the water has gotten in with the oil and dosnt look pretty so this is going to require a full flush out of the motor to remove all contaminents. im scared to see what comes out of the oil filter.

here are some pics

the head is dry and looking good. im slowly achieving the effect im chasing so hopefuilly after this weekend it wont be long till its completed

thermostat housing in EL, i havnt painted it yet but it here ready to go on.

remember this all came off a running EB - not running the best but it was running.

air change temp sensor??? there is a sensor in the middle of the BBM under the throttle body. i guess that would be it.

T5 will be coming soon... need to do the head gasket then lift the motor out as its too hard changing the head on a motor that rocks on the ground...

yeah its the septone paint from supercheap.

i suprised myself with how shiney it is. but remember to KEEP the paint good you NEED to clean it very very well first. using the liquids i stated above i have had no issues apart from when i dropped the fuel rail across the BBM, but now that its all off again i can retouch up and maybe a few more thick coats of paint across them. over the weekend the head gasket WILL be done, and the gearbox hopefully disconnected.

im working at the good guys over the next 2 days so i dont have friday off to work on it which sux big time, but the better half is working sat so i have some time then. it will be heads down bums up on saturday.

tomorrow i have to install a sub and amp into my friends car as she dosnt know the first thing about stereo's but im teaching her... so no work on it for tomorrow.
