Could someone please tell me how to remove these? I've done it before but have forgotten and don't have a haynes or anything on me. I have the car in the garage on stands now.
I'm trying to get the bolts out on the upper arms but they won't budge. The end connecting to the diff has some stupid thing around the bolt also making it hard to get a socket on there, just pain after pain. So far I've taken off the rear wheels and jacked the diff to take the weight. I tried it with the diff jacked and diff hanging and the bolts won't crack. Do I have to remove the shocks to completely drop the diff to take the arms out? Or can I do it with the diff jacked or with the diff just hanging? Thanks. |

18mm socket.
Theres a captive nut, no need to touch that. I use a 18mm impact socket, with a breaker bar. They're up tight, but usually an entire diff can be removed in about 40minutes. No need for a book, just undo them.

Jack up the car yes, you'll need to, otherwise you'll bend the shocks (or at least subject them to a twisting angle)
Raise the car, rip off the wheels, tuck them under the sills. remove the calipers if you cant get room (2 bolts) and undo the arms. replace them get one in, and stick in the bolt. then insert a screwdriver into the hole and try to get the angle right. (there's a reason why the bolts are tapered at the thread end) don't tighten the bolts completely. throw the calipers back on, throw the wheels on, lower the car, give it a few bounces and tighten them up while on the ground.
