Currently about to complete the au6 conversion into an el.
We have a au xr6 VCT engine running and working however we have an oil leak from the VCT solenoid housing, around the 3 bolts. Have cleaned the part, used sealer and thread tape on bolts and still likes to leak. How many gasket are ment to be in this part, as we only have the rubber o ring gasket in place, and we're thinking maybe the is ment to be a paper gasket aswell? Any help will be greatly appriciated Heno |

the manuals pretty vauge, check the o ring,it should be higher than the face, its not flattened and in the right spot, hasnt moved.not damaged at all,if not sure replace it.when its fitted the o ring should hold the oil pressure,no paper gasket as it reduces the o ring pressure, but a smear of a sealant on the face would be ok.

it is just the o ring that seals it, although i have used a little silicon on the face to be sure..
are you sure its not leaking from the solinoid itself?? |

+1 Solenoid itself leaking. Had the same problem on my AU VCT - traced the leak to coming through the solenoid. It's so common that solenoids are not available from wreckers in NZ - they are gone instantly - so have to buy new.
