I was driving before and my car just died with no warning as if someone turned it off at the ignition. It cranks as normal but just doesnt fire. I got towed back home and thought it may have been the fuel pump but i checked the fuel lines and there is still fuel present on the pump and engine side of the fuel filter so im am at a loss of what it could be.
Any ideas would be muchly appreciated as i need this car to drive. |

Na all the fuses are good. I was just looking at it again and i noticed ya cant hear the fuel pump prime when its keyed to on so maybe it has fuel in the lines but not enough pressure to get it to the injectors. Does this sound possible??
And how do you undo the fuel sender line to get the pump out? |

Check for spark and fuel?
A friends EF did the similar thing you described as your fault. I diagnosed it as a faulty ECU after finally getting a hold of some EF schematics. With my fluke multimeter I found that the ECU wasn't switching earth to the coil packs to fire. Installed 2nd hand ECU and all fixed. Cheers....

Ok i think it must be the pump as i cant hear the priming noise it makes and i tried starting it with the fuel line disconnected at the fuel filter and no fuel came through. Now i want to know how to disconnect this line so i can take the pump out?

Check you have 12v at the fuel pump first, might be a dud fuel pump relay. It's the green one under the coolant reservoir. Common for them to rust out on the plug terminals.

When I replaced fuel pump during a cpi to mpi conversion on the my old EA Spak . I just removed the large hose clamp and tapped the plastic ring with a large flat head screw driver and hammer. Put a rag over the end of the screw driver so it doesn't break any of the plastic fins. Anti-clockwise direction aswell.

you dont need to take the fuel tank out. just undo the top black lid (undo the worm drive band clip) unscrew lid and u can pull it out (Y) should have no problem.

Yeh i knew that but i had a full tank and wanted to get fuel out because there was a lot of dirt and crap but i ended up scraping and vacuuming most of it out. Put the new pump in and it fired up first shot. Cheers guys
