Hey guys,
When I arrived home today my steering was making a droning sound as I turned in, so I knew something was up. I popped the hood and there is barely any fluid left in the pump. My level is usually perfect and consistent so this doesn't make a lot of sense. The power steering pump I bought 11/10/05 and was installed on 20/10/05 by a mechanic. Also purchases a "hose pwr strg return" hose (is that high pressure hose?) on 18/10/05 and I'm guessing that was also installed on the 20th. I cannot see any residue immediately around the unit itself, though the cap was a little moist (but the cap came new with the AU spec one I purchased last year). So what's the go people? Where should I look, what's the most common cause of this? I'm yet to get it up on the stands, but I will tomorrow if you guys know where I should be looking. I got work tomorrow night, and my first date since breaking it off with my X on Friday night, so it is quite urgent. Cheers.

may have burst the high pressure line. going by what you said, your mechanic replaced the pump and the return hose.

On this receipt of where i got it installed, it has "low hose", is that another term for the return hose that I bought? It was a year ago so it's hard to remember if this "low hose" is what i provided for him to install, or not. I cna't even remember buying this return hose from Ford, lol, and yet I have the receipt.
What's my best course of action?

Any fluid on the ground?
Or along the chassis rails/underside of the car? Don't recommend you drive with an unknown powersteering leak, that s**t is highly flammable if it gets on extractors/exhaust. Could be powersteering pressure switch, they are known to split.

chances are the knuckle on the back of the pressure line has crapped itself.
look for wet patches (ill be nice) or any evidence of it leaking. it could be leaking from the pressure switch on the rack, or even from a boot. I doubt the grease monkey replaced the pressure line as they're $140 odd from fraud and a bit of a pain to do (more than 10 mins =P) I've had 2 guys at work within a week with pwr steering prblms one was the pressure line and the other one was the canister seal on the pump itself... must be that time for pumps to go :/ *awaits*

Well mum has been reporting "oil" on the driveway and there has been a lot of oil building up on the underside of the car (as I reported in my sump leak thread). So maybe it's not engine oil after all.

Mate I had that same problem on my EL...the power steering switch had cracked and it was pissing out power steering fluid all over the place. On my way home from my mates house with 2 other mates in the car, I just lost control of the steering and funnily enough after crossing the train tracks, Good Year Tyre and Auto service was straight ahead. Got there and there was no more PS fluid and couldn't turn the car for s**t. For some reason I had some fluid in my boot and poured it in...they tested it noticed the switch was basically gone.
Most likely the switch...if not steering rack. phong =P~

That pic would be handy hazza. HOw much are these switches, need a pro to install them?
I know have the car up on the ramps, so any more tips and places to look for leaks would be great. Cheers.
