being a mild cam shouldnt it work ok with the computer??

1636 is as high as they recomend you go without other engine mods. I had one in my fairlane and it ran fine. Check with your mechanic and make sure he used double shims in the lash adjusters.

+1 on the shims

also get your mech to clean out the throttle body, and set the base idle with the ISC disconnected.
Also bump up the base timing to 15 degrees, from the usual 10.

yep play with the timing and back it off a touch when it starts to ping. Clean the ISC while doing the throttle body.

he confirmed that it has definitely been double shimmed, i gave wade cams a call, and he said that the battery has to be disconnected for at least half an hour before the computer can re learn itself. The mechanic was going to leave it for a while and then get back to me.

Yes the ecu will have to get all the air/fuel peramaters and recalculate everything. Just drive it for a couple of days and take it from there. Sorry I thought you had the car back from the mechanic.

Any cam change will generally have the car coughing and spluttering for a while, but you definitely need to reset the ECU. My 1673 would barely run right after it was installed.

dont worry about it, mine was pretty rough when i first got that cam in. Mine would stall at lights and if i turned an was in reverse it would stall, so i just adjusted the idle so it would rev at around 850-900rpm.

When i installed my 1636, it idle'd a little rough (wouldn't say it was a concern) but stalled every time i would put it in gear, and try to drive with no accelerator.

i let it idle for about half an hour, then tried to reverse out of the drive way - about 3 restarts i got to the road, took about 100Km of driving for it to completely stop stalling.

Take it for a good drive and let it run in (about 200ks will do it or drive around town and highway for about an hour or so varying the rev range

Did he bleed the lifters before putting them back in?

If they weren't, they may be holding the valves open slightly, causing the idle stalling. Would also cause the thing to run a bit rich too.

And when you say double shim, we hope we are all talking the same thing.

thanks for the help guys, took the car for a decent drive earlier today, runs alot smoother once it has warmed up. I upped the base idle slightly to stop it from stalling at the lights, its still running very rich though

looks like j3 chip is the next step?

its been almost a week and the car is still fairly rough and fuel consumption isnt to great, surely this isnt normal for such a mild cam??

You will need a J3 chip if you want to run proply and have good economy
