Since good old ford want $5 a shim, im looking at the idea of using washers, which I hear also works fine assuming you find something a suitable size and hardness, and thats just my problem. I cant.
Is anyone who has used them able to tell me where they got them. Ive tried the major hardware stores and specialist nut and bolt shops so far.

$5? they only cost me $3 a shim for my EL...

I'd pay the extra at Ford just to make sure there the exact right size. Minecost me $43.00 all up. Shop around at different Ford dealers/spare parts, there prices seem to vary!

washers are fine. Make sure they are hardened and you wont have any probelms at all. $5 baught enough to do 3 cars.

To make matters worse no Ford dealers have any shims on the coast, and the reason is because their supplier doesnt have any shims either.
The closest washers I can find are 10mmx2mm with the shims being (11x2) Useable?

Bud, if the washers can be garenteed to be the right size no reason not to use them. When I did mine I particually went with the shims as I had no idea what they were to be honest or what sizing and I didn't wanna stuff around. |

When JMM, ITS and a dozen other people all report it works no problems. AND they cost $5 each AND no one has any stock I think its a fair choice.

Well I got myself some shims after all. Not through ford though, I ended up buying the rocker assembly of another EF from the wreckers for $50 (still cheaper than from ford).
It came in more handy than I imagined because some of my lifters were rooted and on top of that for reasons I cant quite figure out when I first cranked the engine over after putting the cam in, a rocker arm cracked! It was all seated right and triple checked.. My guess it had a weakness in it and I gave it a bump without realising while I was putting the shims in. Cheapo cast alloy is pretty brittle so be careful with em. So a spare rocker arm went on and its all good and goes hard.. I highly recommend the wade 1604 grind for cars without a lot of work.
