I have the 'pleasure' of driving one at work, and its soooo slow You mean the new 190 kw ones dont you? Yes they are s hit house. The old XR whips every time. (well one out of one anyway) I was talking the bog stock alloytecs, the 190's aren't much (any?) better. They've got no get-up-and-go until around 5K, then you're only 1K from redline. I might be wrong, but from memory they still rev way past that, and make peak power at something like 6,700 rpm.

No the work one I've take to the limit where the auto will change ~6K tacho only goes to 6.5K.
They still don't sound right either (just like the ecotecs) Take 'em high and they sound like they're gonna blow up. Take a 4.0 I6 up to redline and it sounds awesome, a deep roar, sounds like there's more to come. To bad the non-XRs loose all power and torque earlier (~5K, 3~.5K).

For some reason the holden v6 sounds really rough when its reving compared to the falcon six, is there any major reason for this?

Yeah cos it's a 90 degree unbalanced POS V6, V8's are meant to be 90 degrees and sixes 60 degrees FFS! I'ts origins are from a V8, basically it's had 2 cylinders chopped off. Not the best way to go about doing things...but don't blame Holden - this all happened well before the commodore was even around. |

Can't explain why the alloytech sounds bad, maybe the alloy lets a bit more engine noise through!
