remember the 1988 til 1990 VN's has the older version V6 their idle was bloody terrible they changed the engine in the VN update was about mid-late 1990 to the VP motor because so many customers complained about it.

One of the reasons the rev heads like VN's cos of the rough idle makes them look like its got a cam in it, when its only a stock motor

I've noticed that. After reading that the commadore V6's were ruff runners I made a connection thta most spanka's like em coz of the resulting idle/exhaust note.

It all makes sense now...

dont forget with v6's you require 2 exhaust manifolds and usually have 2 cats.

was always an advantage when upgrading the falcon exhaust over the commo, can be cheaper.

we had a 1988 VN Executive, we sold it to family friends at 375,000klms, same motor, never been rebuilt, and it never missed a beat and went harder then mums ED. it finally died the other day on about 420,000klms when my mate bent a valve in it, only after being bounced off the limiter about 10,000 times, always flat foot, running dirt circuit car oil, basically thrashed like f**k. and it also did 230km/h once and once only :P down a looooong steep highway hill it was bouncing on the limiter in 4th gear  it never ran the same after that though...

moral of the story: these motors may be a chopped Buick V8, have a rough idle, but f**k are they durable. Do that stuff to an EA and it woudnt even last half as long.

I have seen many Holden V6's blown up before 300,000K's. I personally had one blowup at 110,000K's on it. Seized it solid, couldn't turn it over with a 3ft breaker bar with a 6ft pipe on it. It was a VS.
Seen heaps that needed the heads done at about 250,000K's because of LPG.
When the VN's were new, the local Holden dealer kept 25 camshafts in stock, because they were sh!tting themselves that much.

I know quite a few cabbys that dont like the V6 commodores, they prefer the Falcons cos they are more reliable and dont break down as much.... maybe thats why you see more falcon cabs.... and they seem to clock up a fair few kays too on the falcon engines before changing them. 800,000kays on an I6 is the norm it seems, have heard of 1 that has done 1.4mil and still going never been rebuilt

What one would you use. Most of them are for Front wheel drive cars.
One of BMW's thoughts are that " the wheels that drive the car, shouldn't steer the car", or vice versa, so you won't find a BMW sedan/wagon that is front wheel drive.

Including the smallest of the lot, the 1 series, is still rwd.

How could anyone compare a commodore v6 to the I6
The commodore v6 is a f**k rattle box VN-VY rev them and you look like steady eddie driving, they sound s**t they have no torque somehow have about 80-100nm less then a ford 6 lol and they are a light car and better geared and still cant take a falcon...I had 4.11's in my eb tho :P but that and an exhaust vs a commo and an exhaust i still had longer gears but id be a car to 60 quicker sometimes more.... and i know ppl who have thrown rods in v6's and generally cant take high rpm like the ford 6 will do all fukn day

story this weekend lol my mate had an old 90" EA fairmont 4spd 3.9mpi
engine, box 450,000km we decided to padock bash it about 4 hours last saturday night, we jumped it 20 times at like 80 buried it in water sideways into ditches, red-lining almost the whole time (5500) let it sit in the red of the temp gauge the whole time still not losing water till the last hour a hose split on the fill up tank... now this motor when we got it back to his house was overheating, had no water in it, was still quiet, no ticking at all no bottom end noise... this car cost him $300 2 yrs ago came with a blown headgasket so it had an AU metal and a new water pump but it was original 450,000 so thats a credit to how strong a ford motor is.... u cant c the rockers over sludge and the bottom end has quite i lip on the bore from MANY k's, but we couldnt blow it up.....and in the last 2 yrs all we have done is flog it...cant c any commodore handling that s**t.

Its now gonna become our weekend dirt paddock racer, as we cant kill it.
maybe some suspension issues heheheh, 3 wheel bearings gone, both ball joints are bad , bent strut, f**k rear shock, every panel pushed in, Build Ford Tough.

s**t, did they even ever make one!? I've only ever heard of flat 4's, namely the subaru engine. Supposedly pretty smooth runners?

I never thought they were, I've had several arguments with him about it.
