The i6 in my eb-s is starting to show it's age at 279,000km and i suspect the head gasket is about to give way.
My question is whether to replace the i6 with a V8 out of an EB-ED or stick with a 6? Is there much of a performace increase with a v8 over the 6? I've owned a few v8's, but not an injected one. Whats the fuel economy complared to a 6 driving conservatevly? I would be replacing the box with a v8 unit aswell as diff. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 41362&rd=1 this would be perfect. Is that price a bit high? Any sugestions would be great.

That wreck is a good buy for $2k. Has everything you need - looms and computers, gearbox and trans control unit etc.

whats wrong with replacing the head gasket
i just did mine and it wasn't to hard just three head bolts that were stubborn the car is running great now oh and i'll need to replace the timing chain tension plunger..but thats latter

nar fuel econ on a stocko V8 shoudl be simalar as i6 as long as u keep the foot OFF the floor V8 has more power to be made NA than i6 ie 5.0 windsor with some nice head cam+ roller rockers,exhaust and intake can easy push 200kw at the treads and put the car in the mid 14 sec bracket

As long as you don't mind the extra fuel consumption, it is a worthy upgrade.

Not much damage to the car (driveline, mounts, etc. should be fine). Good price considering you will have all the parts you need for the swap. Extractors/exhaust and CAI will be a wise upgrade for economy.

saw a eb run into a suzuki 4wd on saturday nothing wrong with the 4wd but the eb will need a new passenger front panel and headlight

Best thing i ever done was throw the v8 into my AU not long ago,
 u can just feel the power wen u punch it in the guts, and ur 100% right about a v8 having more potential for power, ive kept mine NA but had it bored, stroked, new cam, CAI, etc and mechanic reckons ill be pushin about 210 at the wheels once its run in. Petrol is expensive either way so i say MEH!
