Hi guys,
Starting a new thread as I can't find a straight answer. Putting a warmer cam in my brothers EB and need to find the part number of some springs that will fit with standard retainers and without machining. Looking around .520' lift. Are Crow 7738's suitable? Their catalog doesn't list them for the OHC motors but I found a few threads on FM which say they would fit. I know the JMM springs fit but they are $240. Cheers, Jason

Jason, if you still have Jaysens number from RPD, he can give you the part number of the spring that was used to support up to .600 thou lift.

The 7332-12 might fit without machining but you do need the same retainers as specified for the doubles.
These might be just the outers of the doubles used on their own http://www.crowcams.com.au/media/catalo ... %20all.pdf |

Thanks for the quick replies.
I don't have Jaysen's number unfortunately. I'd rather avoid having to buy retainers if we can. The JMM ones are a single spring and work with stock retainers, nice and simple fit. Some info collected from other threads on here for future readers: 7739-12 XR6 Valve springs 90lb .600" [stock retainer no machining] 7332-12 115lb .650" [crow retainer required unsure about machining] 7333-12 'Double' Valve springs 140lb .650" [crow retainer required unsure about machining] 7738-12 Crossflow Valve springs 110lb .640" [unsure if these will fit without machining - this is what I would like to confirm]

Atomic engines make double valve springs that don't need machining.

Atomic springs are only good for AU heads according to their site. This is for an EB.

from memory 7738's (cleveland springs) will go, also have used camtech springs in the past.
If you are doing springs, change the retainers while your at it, it would be a shame to have one crack and end up costing you a motor instead |

Cheers for the replies. I was hoping the retainers would be fine, one less thing to worry about.
Updated table, hopefully spacing works OK: Code: NUMBER O/D ID OF ID OF SPRING RH or LH FREE SPRING SOLID APPLICATION SEAT RATED COMMENT OUTER INNER TYPE (OUTER) LENGTH RATE HEIGHT PRESSURE LIFT 7331 1.430" 1.070" 0.795" 2 L 2.380" 320 1.050" 7332 1.430" 1.070" 0.815" 2 L 2.380" 325 1.050" 115lb .650" crow retainer required unsure about machining 7333 1.437" 1.070" 0.810" 2 L 2.380" 330 1.050" Double' Valve springs 140lb .650" crow retainer required unsure about machining 7738 1.475" 1.060" 0.930" 1+ damper L 2.155" 350 1.140" Crossflow Valve springs 110lb .640" unsure if these will fit without machining - this is what I would like to confirm 7739 1.414" 1.020" 0.916" 1+ damper R 2.160" 295 1.150" XR6 Valve springs 90lb .600" Stock retainer no machining Looks like the Cleveland springs have a larger ID than standard and may walk on the seat? The doubles must use a locating washer I guess?

I've got a spreadsheet but its only for side valve engines or direct acting bucket on shim engines (like most motorcycles). I could mod it for your application but I need to perform some serious measurements on your rocker gear. |
