hi there, i have a eb xr6 that has been set up similar to a dev 5 jim mock motorsport kit except with a milder port. the car runs a dev 5 cam however i am not totally happy with its performance as i beleive it is causing valvetrain issues with lash and timing chain. If anyone could shed some light on this i.e is it the way being setup or is this a common problem with this cam.

Also can anyone recomend me a cam that makes good power and more torque as that what was lacking with this cam, if you recomend a cam can you tell me some of the performance you got out of it.

thanks!!

Yah that power and time was before the bad running hit. it now has like a chain rattle or slap and the timing is not advancing at all, it is staying on the base timing but that is a computer related problem. what should be done about this timing chain problem??? do you rekon changing cams is a good idea. sgould i replace the timing chain?? thanks

I've got the same issue on my falcons, spoke to my mate Dave (Voxace) he reccons a tensioner may have cacked itself.

And yea, thrashing your car does not do it justice (mine used to be fine :P)

My car also has this problem with a RPD Rspec4 cam. It is most noticeable just off idle.

Have heard replacing the tensioner spring with a stiffer spring can help but haven't tried this yet.

UMMM if you are querying the power it makes you should have a look around as their are a few cars around and on this forum that are making more than that. The dyno sheet will be posted up ASAP

The chain noise was there prior to the computer/timing problem.

The timing problem has been rectified but still have the chain noise which i have know found out that falcons are common to make that noise when they have cams put in and that it is lash cause by the large cam.

Thanks!

Hmm.. 161 rwkw from a dev 5, I6 with milder porting. You can tune my car anytime, seeing a stock BA Xr6 turbo has about 180 rwkw.

If you have cam chain rattle then I would say it is the tensioner if that was all you did, my daughters has cam chain rattle but that is due to a head gasket replacement then shaveing the head square so now it has a rattle as the tensioner will not take it all up.

I have a rpd cam and no rattle as most car are not all rattly I find that if it wasn't doing it pryor to the install then it should not do it after unless you have had to much taken off doing the port work.

The dev5 cam is known for this "problem". Im sure they will be able to offer some advice if you give them a call.

Mate, 161rwkw is quite easily obtainable from an E-Series 6, Extractors, hiflow cat, 2.5" zorst and a cam will do that, Grechie, OED666 (FFAU) and fordfreak ef have more power than that....
