Two days ago i got pace maker 4480s high flo cat and lukey 2.5" exhaust fitted. My car had been running like a beaut. Today i was going to go out so i decided to do a lil wheel spin on my driveway (its one of those steepish drive ways i was reversing up hill) so i put it in neutral revved to like 3500 and put in reverse i did a lil wheel spin but at the same time i heard a big snap or something. my g/f who was standing outside did'nt hear it but i heard it and it was loud. ever since she (my car) has had a rough idol and i think a rough power delivery (i feal her surging a lil bit when i drive and idols) fuel economy does'nt seem to be affected but when i put it neutral to drive it comes close to stalling also when i bring the revs up and let it drop it comes close to stalling. one friend thinks the gear box and an other thinks the ecu. Im really confused i would have thought the cranksharft or something. I checked my water no oil in it, checked my oil no water and i cheked my cap no water- so i'm pretty sure its not the head. I'll have a closer look tommoro in the sunlight. I'm getting a spare engine tommoro so i might just swap them over, but i'd rather not

I'd check the engine / tranny mounts too.

doing a neutral slap like that is very very bad for your trans.
it's obvious that you and your friends are just having a stab in the dark as to what it could be. your best bet would be to get a mechanic to look at it |

3500rpm drop, hahaha, not the smartest idea. I'd disconnect the battery for half an hour and reset the ECU to see if that sorts something out. It may idle a bit funny but just wait till you've done some kilometers for the computer to relearn.
I accidentally dropped mine into reverse one day while driving along at about 60km/hr and it shut the car off. Look after your car a bit more mate, and don't drop the transmission any higher than idle speed, better off stalling it up on the brake cause these transmissions wont last!!!! |

not a good idea to try n spin your wheels in reverse, the car gets axle tramp. and you may end up snapping something.

if you cant get a falcon to do a wheel spin reversing up the hill without dropping it from neutral theres something wrong with you

Ha Ha lol thanks for the info. I worked out what it was. the cars fine. she'll wheelspin in reverse but y'know i don't do i v often. my tranny has seen worse days. and way you know that vacume line that comes up from underneath the air intake manifold and plugs into that lil black box on the firewall, it had come undone. I saw/heard it today plugged it back in and she was good as gold. guess the loud snap was the sound of an air line getting unplugged. thanks for the in put. soon i'll probably put a manual tranny in any way- mines well over-due for a service. I had a feeling all along that things did'nt match up ay. Its funny how the trivial things can really screw you up!

nah the snap was probably the tailshaft hitting the floorpan! and the MAP sensor hose probably came off cause the engine twisted and lifted so much when you dumped it into gear at 3500! Not a good move man.

F**k me - wouldnt try that again if i were you hehe!
Axle tramp, well you will know when you experience it! Ive done it once or twice in reverse when i first got my car, seemed to need alot less accel input if any than my old one in reverse and itd go nuts when i went back bit too fast, obviously wouldnt do it on purpose, its alot like real bad turbulance (sp?) on a plane lol!

Yeah, its not good. More prominent in leaf spring cars, and can be caused by the diff rotating and winding up the springs, which then get a point and spin it back to its normal position, spinning the tyres. If the tyres grip, itll do it again. And again, and again. In coil spring cars the diff can just hop. bery bad feeling. Watched a mate lose first gear in a corty doing it once. Sounded BAD. Then had to do a second gear take off in a thrashed corty, and four people in the car

say. while the topic of axle tramp/wheel hop has been brought up.
is there a brace of sorts that is in production for the fords to help/completely eliminate it? i know in the VW scene there is and it is referred to as a kafer brace. it apparently completely eliminates wheel hop. might be something for you lot to look into fabricating if there is nothing readily available?

oh man, the wheel hop in VW's is brutal!
They're awesome fun to drive but lethal because of the engine acting as a pendulum and that viscous ability of the rear wheels to leave the ground for a little while. |
