i can vouch for the VN SS. was chasing one a few months ago and it absolutely screamed away from me. maybe now with the mods done to my car it would give it a better run but theres no denying they are quick cars, hell i was going to buy one when a car salesman mate could get it for 5 thousand

let me tell you the auto xr6 would not have a chance. vn is lighter and more powerful plus commodores always have the better driver an xr6 manual should keep an auto vn ss and a manual vn ss at bay though. My old man used to have a VRSS auto and it wasn't much quicker than the VN V6 he had.... I've been in a couple of auto falcons (GLi and Forte) and can safely say that they would not get raped by an auto SS. As for an XR6 auto. Never driven one, but one can assume that it is faster than a GLi or Forte and this being the case, would keep with an auto SS. Manual for manual, methinks the XR6 would have it in the bag |

When I first got my license, my utterly stock ED got thumped by a freshly rebuilt V6 VN auto.
I mean really thumped...

It's lighter, it's more powerful, it's got shorter gearing, and pulled better times in all the reviews/tests - of course it will lose!

If you want to know who is faster - google for the 0-100 and 1/4 times for each . Threads like this are USELESS because all everyone does is talk about their personal experiances which are all subjective.
Example - the other night i was at the lights and when they turned green the stock white EB station wagon with p plates in the lane next to me screamed away. He probably went away and bragged how he owned an EF sedan. Would have been a different story if I tried. Point is - comparing what happens on the street is pointless because you dont know how hard the other cars are trying, if they are modified, or the skill of the drivers. If you want to know who is faster, look at what the magazine test drivers who probably get the best out of these cars get. Google tells me: VN SS 0-100 7.2s and 400m in 15.1s XR6 0-100 7.95s and 400m 15.89s

Yeah it is lighter (by about 100kg's) and yeah, it's got more power (1kw........WOW.......). It's got more torque too, but the difference is F**k all and it's produced higher in the rev range. Yeah, an auto XR6 will probably loose against an auto VNSS. What it WON'T get is raped. But hey, if your interested in bragging rights for dragging people from the lights, then why buy an auto Falcon in the first place? |

VN SS - 165 kW @ 4400 rpm, 385 Nm @ 3600 rpm
XR6 - 164 kW @ 5000 rpm, 366 Nm @ 3150 rpm. VN makes peak torque later (which is 20 NM more than the 6), but peak power earlier. Also looks like the peak torque of the VN is better placed for race conditions. I would be surprised if the 6 had more torque anywhere in the rpm range.

The fact is that the caption snoose driver will plow into a tree before the 1/4 is over.

I have been wondering about this for a while cause this d***head at school has a VN SS auto and doesnt mind talking it up saying he will flog me. I have a auto EL XR6 and the other night gave a mate in a VR V8 manual with alot of mods a run and he only just knocked me off

vr/vs have quite a bit more weight behind them than the vn/vp, so it's not the same thing. |

It's an unfortunate compromise... ford autos are quick, holden autos and manuals are faster, ford manuals are fastest

As can be said earlier you never know how hard the other driver is going.
But one NL fairLANE I know (heavy and mechanically stock XR6 donk with cat-back exhaust and SS inductions intake) has no problems keeping up with pre-LS1 8's. And with my mods, once I hit 3K RPM they're gone. All racing done on track, so the other driver SHOULD be flogging it.
