Hey guys. Looking to put a Voltmeter in my mustang. Was just woundering, where should the pos + wire be connected to? Directly to the battery? or can i just connect it to a pre existing power wire such as the CD Players Power wire?
Just putting 1 in to monitor the load when i put my new stereo in |

most are wired to ignition but because it's for monitoring your stereo, wire it to accessories or as you suggested - the radio's accessories power wire.

normally wired so as when your ignition comes on the battery voltage is shown just ensure that there is no power to it when you turn ignition key of.I bought a unit that had dual supply and i wired the wrong one in and flattened the battery.

was just woundering, would the volt guage work if i connected it dirrectly to the battery and installed a switch on it? that way i can turn it off when i dont need to monitor it so it doesnt flaten the battery.
Was just thinking this would be easier than redoing the wiring in the stang. Any reason why this wont work? |

why don't u run a relay coil off the ignition and the contacts through the battery, that way, it will only come on when the ignition is on.

hmm, well yes, your switch idea should work well then. Just make sure you put a fuse in the circuit (with a current rating lower than the wire you will use) in case your wiring shorts, the last thing any of us want is a burning mustang.
