...so what is the "-14" on the end for - I was led to believe it is a smoother idle than the normal 1673?

Thats the LSA. Wide LSA gives you a better idle which is more suited to auto's. 114 is a touch wider than the standard 113 its ground with, so it will idle a touch better than a regular 1673.
