My question is with the Wade Billet Cams do they need to be shimmed or will they fit straight in and do you need new valve springs. the same for RPD Cams do they need to be shimmed to fit.
Also what Cam do you recommend the Wade 1604 looks 1004-10 looks good but so does the RPD stage 2( the one where you dont need to change springs.

They r both good cams mate you would have to get a couple of equipped cars on the dyno to give a definite answer. IMO the stage 2 RPD would b the most fun to drive but thats my opinion

RPD cams need shims, as do any regrind. Billets dont. Look at the cam profile to decide if you want new springs or not. If your engine is a bit old and your looking at cams with 480+ thou lift then you will want new springs. If your engine is good (eg has xr6 springs) your probably ok for 500 thou lift. 96_EFCaridinalRed wrote: Also what Cam do you recommend the Wade 1604 looks 1004-10 looks good but so does the RPD stage 2( the one where you dont need to change springs.
Do a search and see what people are saying about both. Haven’t hear much negative about any of the cams, but keep in mind the 1004-110 has a very rough idle

i have a billet 1004-10 in an auto and the idle scares people, small children and animals run for cover.... power is right through from 2200-5500 and it goes hard, suits me perfectly
if you want your car to idle get the rpd r spec 3 - old stage 2 i think. there is no "better" cam in my experience they are just different, the way they behave, where the power comes in, how much power, wether they are suited to forced induction ect, what do you want out of the cam? |

i basically want good power right through the rev range and i dont want a super fast car just fast enough to wipe the smile off our commodore rivals. Ohh yeh I have a auto. I do want a bit of a lumpy idle to make it sound even better

the RPD r-spec 3 (old stgII) will run on an auto, these make solid power right through the range, as a bonus, RPD offer cash back if your not 100% satisfied, they are avalible to talk to to trouble shoot as well well to get the best solution for you.. give the boys a ring they will have a chat and sort out what you are after..

RPD dont need shims if you get one of their other products... dont remember what it was though... it was either no shims or reduces the amount to virtully none.

RPD and RPD rocker gear is still a cheaper combo than a billet cam, and wade don't offer money back if your not happy.. your only a number to them.. go the RPD if your not happy, then go to wade.. sound reasonable? But I have been running various RPD cams shimmed correctly there is no problem at all.. there are options out there for you.. just read and ask.

You obviously are very happy with your cam, but no need to bash the opposition. Wade have been supporting us for a long time with cam profiles, big discounts to forum members, and good aftersale support. And yeah your right, RPD exchange regrind + rocker gear works out $10 cheaper than a Wade billet (non-exchange so you could sell your stock cam for $10 and break even) and thats only if you dont need shims. Keep in mind this is still more than double the price of a wade regrind so lets not get carried away with $$$ - Cams for our engines are so cheap and easy its almost not worth looking at the price tag anyway.

I don'think dc_todd was bashing the opposition, he has a good point, we do offer 100% money back, so from a customers perspective, Id rather try the option which I can, if need be, get my money back, and try something else. I think that's a reasonable suggestion really.
Cheers
