Hey guys,
Ive got a Ford Falcon AU 99 Classic that im wanting to upgrade the cam. Ive heard plenty of positives about the Wade Cams AU1645.
Can anyone tell me what benefits i would get out of this cam/any other cam you recommend?
What power gains i can expect?
Any exhaust note changes?

Also, i am aware that by just installing this cam alone, my idle will be stuffed. I know ill have to J3 chip it to make it work.
Thanks!!!

Just incase anyone is watching this thread...
Ok, so just talked to someone from Wadecams...
They told me that the 1671 was the best choice for me, as it provides a great power band.
They said the 1645 was alright, but the 1671 would be better for the auto.
The 1671 dosent require and new springs or gear, as it will run in the stock engine.
They also said id have to J3 chip it at the SAME time as installation, otherwise the ECU would just use it as a stock cam.
Im calling them back tomorrow to talk to Chris about costs and doing a swap.

The 1671 will go good, what diff gears do you have?

So what do you mean by sluggish? Lack of power? Lack of Torque?
And what should i buy to not make it sluggish?

A set of different ratio diff gears, ie. 3.45 instead of 3.08. Basically, it's like having all of your gears lower by a bit, so your car can get into the 'power band' quicker. As you may have noticed the BTR 4 speed first gear is quite high - it can get you to about 80ks an hour at redline. This makes getting off the line a bit slower because as it takes longer to get into the rev range with most of the power.

Thanks for explaining that! I was always wondering how a different set of diff gear would affect my car.
But with the 3.45, wouldnt the top speed be lower? And it would rev higher at like 100-110?

Yep, exactly :) You sacrifice the lower revs at whatever speed for more acceleration. Maybe someone else on here who has done a similar mod can say whether it's really a problem or whether it's worth the sacrifice of lower revs?

Yeah I like the pull my car gives me at around 80km/h. You put the foot down and bam, you're literally flying!
Ill probably be happy to sacrifice my lower revs. The 1671 will give me that bit extra regardless of LSD. Plus the J3 chip, does the LSD really matter? My car will be loaded with power, and id rather not increase the torque even more by adding a higher LSD.

A LSD and 3.73 or 3.9 gears will make the car go alot better. Single spinners are crap especially when you are adding more power to the car, it's just gonna want to spin an make it harder to get off the line

Hmm. Alright maybe eventually, but ill see how the cam and J3 feel first, then decide if i want more out of the car.

Ok, so today i called up Wadecams and ordered the AU 1671. They had one in stock so hopefully it will be in the postal system tomorrow.
Also ordered a custom J3 chip to go with the cam and all my mods.

But since the cam is a regrind, i need to find myself a set of 1.9mm shims. I dont really know where to look. Repco dosent have them (I called them) and I called up an engine reconditioning place, and they dont have them either. Ill have to keep searching around.
Unfortunately i dont know how to order parts from ford. Is it as simple as ringing up your local dealer?

Found myself a set of shims from Precision Shims Australia
(http://www.precisionshims.com.au/a/Prec ... -Australia)
Called them up and found that they could do my AU shims.

Called up Ford, and they didnt have them.

So yeah ive now got everything for the camshaft upgrade. Just waiting for it all to arrive :)
