(1999 AU) This morning I got in my car and noticed the brakes weren't working properly, the pedal almost hitting the firewall, then noticed the warning light ( ! ).

Left the car at home and took the bike.

Strangely the owners manual doesn't have this symbol in the book but I'm guessing it is a brake warning light. I checked the brake fluid and it was empty.

My brakes were fine last night so where did all my fluid go?

The only thing I can think of was that is rained a lot last night and hasn't rained for a long time (whatever that means). I'll fill it up with some new brake fluid tonight.

Can also be the Cruise Control pressure switch failing - I think AUs have these. Switch fails, fluid goes into the engine bay.

Either way - make sure you figure it out!

Ok I just opened it up and it wasn't completely empty.. I put some new brake fluid in and nothing changed.

I drove it around for a while and still nothing. Haven't lost any more fluid either.

Basically the pedal just gets to the firewall and locks up.

Can you see any Fluid in the Engine bay? Booster covered in it?

Do you have ABS? is there Cruise like Nigel said? Could be that the Master Cylinder is shot. If it is that would cause the pedal to go to the floor. Under the Master Cylinder is a little 2 prong plastic switch, take the wire off and unscrew it, if the fluid starts pouring out, a new Master Cylinder is needed?

Yeah couldn't see any brake fluid over anything in the engine bay and the brake fluid level hasn't decreased since I topped it up.

I don't have ABS but I do have cruise control.

I checked around the wheels and brakes for any obvious signs of leakage and didn't notice anything. I'm going to drop it off at the mechanics tonight.
