Well, I'm always in a crappy mood after the car goes in for service, and today is no different. It cost me $901.20. FAARRRKK.
Can you check this out and tell me whether you think its excessive pricing: (obviously rego check etc is pretty standard pricing, keep in mind the discs were machined 15mths ago/20,000k) he reckons AU pads dig into the disc and they need maching with most pad replacements??? In particular I'd like the mechanics opinion here.... Rego Check $29.40 Engine oil $35.20 Oil Filter $14.25 6 Spark Plugs $28.05 Fuel Filter $25.30 Front Brake Pads $65.45 Machine Discs $49.50 Diff Oil $20.35 Auto Transmission Service $165 Lube Service, renew oil and filter (labour) $93.50 Electronic Tune Up, renew fuiel filter & plugs (labour) $104.50 Remove & replace front discs for machining, renew pads and repack (labour) $165 Diff Service, change oil and repair leaking O ring behind water pump (labour) $99 1x diff gasket $6.69 Given the car was probably only in the workshop from 9 - 4.30 (they were finishing the rego check at 4.30), it seems like a hell of a lot of labour - $627 to be exact (assuming majority of transmission service was labour, although trannie oil would be a very small part of it). Should I feel as p*ssed off as I am?? Anyone know a decent mechanic in Sutherland Shire that doesn't charge so he can retire at 40??? Ta. |

Well dude if you just took your car in to get surviced, they did a few more things than hey had to. Rego check, machine discs???? No one i know does this on a service. And as for the labor, MY GOD!!!!! I think if i was you, id be learning how to service the car myself... ALOT cheaper.

dont know alot about pricings for all of that but i do know the auto transmission service is a good price since my dad asked a guy where he got his transmission done at 60,000 and they said 195 so $165 is a good price whether they do a good job is a different story

hey hsvetar - thanks mate. Yes, I mean it went in for a general service and check and to see what else needed doing - he didn't technically do anything I didn't want, my main concern is the amount of labour cost, and the fact that he reckons the discs needed machining even though they were machined at last pad change 20,000k/15mths ago....
By the way its just a 99 AU. 6cyl |

When you consider the fact that most workshops mark up their parts prices and labour can be upwards of $80 per hour that price seems about normal.
If you had done it yourself. Oil filter $7, Oil $25-$50 depending on type & quality etc Plugs $3.50ea total $21 Disc machining $20ea brake pads between $45-$120 depending on what you want. Normal Auto Service should be around $110 This was a Ford dealership right?

Nope, not a dealership - I would expect that at a dealership. This is just your normal local mechanic.
Even at $80 hour, the car was there for 7.5hrs, which is $600 labour. You can't tell me it took more than 1 person more than 7.5 hrs to do the labour involved in that job??? Given they no doubt had a lunch break.... He has quoted me $245 + GST for supply & fit a trannie cooler - whats that like? He has offered me $50 off my next job since I questioned how expensive it was today - but I still think the labour today was a lot more than $50 overcharged..... Hey, I don't mind paying for what I get, but $627 labour for basically changing the oil, filters, diff oil, replace brake pads, tune up, tranmission service, which they way I understand isn't much more than a drain/fill on the AU, seems hideous.... |

Remove & replace front discs for machining, renew pads and
repack (labour) $165 what does this mean? what is he actually "repacking"?? the AU have seperate hubs/bearings. the discs just unbolt. certainly shouldnt take 2 hrs to do that.

um, question:
wtf is a rego check? like.. isnt that looking at your sticker and seeing that it is still in date / out of date? or is there more to it than that?

Fitting a tranny cooler is a long job, they have to take off the front bar.
I got a taxi spec (ie. huge) one parts/labour for $330.

mate i think that is expensive, if you dont mind the drive go and see joe at crescent in liverpool (book in for a sat morning and go shopping at westfields while you wait or talk to all the other fordmodders there every saturday, lol), if you want to stay local try Doug at the mobil servo in kirrawee (the one with the bush bash charity cars out the front all the time), he used to service our work cars and seemed resonable, but that was years ago. tell him Rob from lockwoods sent you over.
