What is deal with water pump plastic pulley, which looks liek needs a puller to remove collar holding pulley on, you have to separate this to get rotor end off which has to come off to replace inner WP gasket?
has loose steel plate between rotor and pump body, and a 2nd WP gasket? also....there are precautions or issues to pulling these tensioner body or plugs or whatever leaks, arent there? Is leaking oil profusely, people mentioned here an $3 o-ring seal, turning the outer hex under power-steering pump is only a cap or plug, isnt it? |

yeah they are a plastic pulley which if your pump goes it is worth while replacing the pump AND pulley - they generally break if you try and get them off.

It hasnt actually gone, is serviceable, i just need to get at the gasket inside the loose plate at the back and replace it..
they have two water pump gaskets.. the plastic pulley is actually held on with a little steel collar...it has a thread inside it..I take it there is a puller to go into that thread inside hub, and under the rim on the steel collar, and pull it off? that must release the shaft and rotor to come out the back to access that plate and inner gasket plate to pump body? |

there is a puller available to remove the pulley, i have one and it cost me about $150 2-3 years ago - it's the same puller to remove the power steering pulley. in all the time i've had it i've used it maybe 2-3 times.
the thread up the guts is to pull the pulley onto the shaft. the little collar is part of the pulley. the shaft also presses into the bearings so if u want to remove the shaft to replace the inner gasket u'll have to replace the inner seal. try and find one of them. as happy said, replace them both

Just replace the damn pump. You'll break the pump housing trying to dismantle it. If its leaking, gasket or not, just replace it, its cheaper than another engine if you cook it.

if you do get a new pump and pully, get them to press it on for you - you'll crack it if you don't know how to put it on dead straight!!

Replace the whole pump! I've just done mine when I put a Reco Engine in, the pumps only worth about $80.00.

the pulley sometimes comes separate when you buy the pumps new, and sometimes it's metal instead of plastic too.
