haha wow cjh I can't even comprehend that atm! I spent most of the day today cursing after another new set of plugs failed.. At least 3 of them are leaking the corrosion in the block is so bad I literally watched the sealer blow out on one as the engine warmed up. Waited the 24hrs both times but doesn't look like the stag is going to cut it! Especially when the corrosion's like this..
 [/URL]At $3-$5 per plug I'll be broke by the end of the week I might give it another go and then I think it's time for some steel ones and an attempt with the mig welder

That doesn't look like corrosion.....looks like damage caused by improper removal....maybe a small cold chiesel....????

The welch plugs are easy enough to remove and I use a socket just bigger than the welch hole and drill a hole in the brass plug. I then use a long threaded bolt just bigger than the hole but small enough to grab the hole with the threads. Just a matter of tightening the bolt until the welch plug pops out.
The damage looks like someone tried to stake the plug in place to me. The mini engine during rebuild has to have the oil gallery brass plugs staked otherwise they rattle out. After a few rebuilds the gallery plug hole looks pretty chewed up so I use de con to reline it and then restate. De con is pretty good stuff but don't let it get internal as it will cause all manner of issues and will eat bearings for breakfast. |

I picked some up yesterday looks like it's going to do the job  they're in drying atm but I'm giving it 2 days just to be on the safe side because I gave the stag almost 30hrs and it was still wet  guess that's why it blew out around the plugs haha. Don't know why it didn't set but the ultra blue stuff goes on nice and thick anyway I like it way better looks like it's going to work i'll know by Friday if it did the job!!Thanks again guys!!! |
