Just make sure it is actually the welch plugs leaking. I bought a set to fit too mum's eb only to discover the exhaust manifold was obscuring my view and what I really had was a leaking head gasket.
I think it will be an engine out job if it is definately the rear welch plug.

To do the rear welsh plug, take out the box ( man or auto), flywheel/flexplate, and the shim plate, you are there.
Just make sure it isn't the very back of the head gasket, there are 2 water jackets/slots there.

While you're at it, replace the rear main bearing seal.

All i used was abit of that dynagrip chocolate brown gasket glue stuff around the welsh plug and make sure your replacing it with a brass welsh plug. hopefully wont be doing it for a while.

If the plugs are brass (or if they make them... stainless steel), you'd probably end up selling or wrecking the car before having to replace them again. I reckon a hammer and drift would still remove them OK.
