just puled head down to do head gasket on the back of the cam has stamped a number 1 is this just a stok cam its a 94ef gli and what elce can i do to the head while its out to inprove performance

That depends on how far you wanna go. If its a daily commuter, wouldn't bother. Not sure on cam, i'd have to find mine and have a look.

well i dont wana spend big buks but is it worth geting say 10thow shaven off the head to get more comp will that efect anything in a bad way? im used to doin cleveos not this new stuff

Just get the head skimmed, so its clean and flat. Use new head bolts too, the old ones were prone to cracking under the heads, and/or stretching.
How many K's on it? If it has more than 200,000km on it, might be a good idea to get the valves reground, and new valve stem seals fitted too.
And replace the O'rings for the cam chain tensioner assembly.

its got bout 260 ks on it and yer geting new bolts n stuff iv done a few of these but just wondring what cheepish mods i should do while its out is it worth geting 10thow off it and maby cleaning up the inlet out chambers to get beter flow ? i can do that myself

When you sit the Exhaust gasket on the head, you'll notice that there is about 2-3mm of metal inside the gasket, remove this, with a slow taper towards the inside, try not to take off too much on the floor of the port.
The inlets are usually pretty good, just a touch up & buff smooth.
I didn't know if you were a novice or not. sorry.
Why did you need to pull the head off anyway?

ah there was water leaking down the Exhaust side of the blok in 4 spots so figerd needs a new gasket and yer i know my way around engins manly clevos i stuff around with not this newish stuff thats why all the questions

Just a little thing to do, clean as best you can, the side of the block, then paint it gloss black, if it leaks in future, you'll know.
Have you had hassles with a Clevo running too hot?

yer have my old 302 ran hot then i puled it down and found out ot was 40thow over bored wich ya dont wana go any more than 30thow on a clevo

ok done the zorst ports tonight will give the inlet a clean up tomora allso thinking on maby geting a cam but still wana fing out if its worth geting 10thow off the head
