Hey all, i've got an EF falcon with the usual mods: Exhaust, extractors, cat, shift kit. And lately most people have suggested i get a new cam next. I am wondering what type of cam to look for, and what would best suit my car? Also what I'd be looking at paying? And what performance benefits would i gain?

Any info would be awesome, cheers Sam

Rough price guide, from 120 as an FM member for a Wade regrind, up to 490 for a Mock regrind.

Some may require uprated valvesprings, and an adjustable cam gear (around 100) is a good investment.
Reeaaaally hard to just say 'get this cam'.
Is your car manual or auto?
What sort of driving do you do most? (highway, city?)
Are you willing to sacrifice some lowdown power?
Are you willing to spend more for uprated valvesprings?
Best bet is to look around and see what different cams people have, PM them and ask for there thoughts, how it drives, what times its run etc.
Even better if you can get along to an SA cruise, either FM or E-Series and speak to people face-to-face.

Like I said, get a list of cams that have been 'recommended', then find people who actually HAVE these cams, and get info off them ;)
Chuck a Wade 1636 onto your list.

as jonbay stated, i was looking at JMM but through research i found out some good packages. I have dealt through Jay's RPD and must say the service is great, always keeping in touch considering that they are interstate.
but just because many ppl have dealt with them doesnt mean they are the ONLY one to buy from.

There are wade cams and i think a few ppl have mentioned surecams. do what i did and do a lot of research, talk to ppl here as most of them know their s**t.... tell them what you want because there is not a one specific cam to get, it really depends on what you want.

i would suggest you get in contact with Jays RPD (commerical sponsor) and see what they recommend for you. They have Cam packages too so it can work out to be financially better for you.

if you can, try and go for a ride in cars with different cams and similar mods to yours. that way you will get a real feel for what you actually want.

keep us posted on how everything goes champ.

E-mail or phone the companies that interest you. Have a chat to them and try to decipher the truth from the s**t (which is harder than it sounds :D )

Once you've narrowed you're choice down and you've found a couple that you're happy with, as Steady said, speak to as many people WHO ACTUALLY HAVE THE CAM YOU ARE LOOKING FOR FITTED TO THEIR OWN, PERSONAL, DAILY DRIVEN VEHICLE and see what they think.

IMO, you shouldn't have to sacrafice any bottom end grunt, as this (and mid range) is where nearly everyone drives their car 95% of the time. That, plus the I6 has a notorously grunty bottom - mid range that you wouldn't sacrifice for the world! :D

We dont have any cruises in SA. Come on.!

Dude im also thinking of a cam but i first need the air intake, and exhaust.
Been told the 1004 is a decent cam but i want to drive one really before i do get one.

Keep us posted in what you do.
