im in the same boat man, a air filter will set u bout 100 buks and its meant to make a small difference, im getting ss inductions bigmouth kit for 290 and another 100 for a filter. i should get about 8-10kw from that i hope. also running BP ultima may halp a small proportion.
also 1400 should get u some headers and a exhaust if u shop smart.
thats pretty much it for cheap mods. computer tune of flash edit is bout a grand but that should come after u have done the other mods.

First id start with some fully sick neons, then maybe some greddy and pioneer stickers down the side of the door.. Judging my the skylines getting around, these mods should see you doing at least 12's.

But on a more serious note, i'd say .. exhaust, extractors, filter, cold air induction, cams, all these will give you a little more oomph and are fairly cheap.

why spend $290 on a big mouth. put a XR6 turbo intake on thu sucker
available at any ford dealer (or US) for about $35.
this will save you some money for the GREDDY stickers

OK - Size these up

1. Get rid of the original snorkal and replace with the T snorkal : $35 (DIY)

2. 2nd CAI - Don't get SS inductions etc - either get an XR8 snorkal and connect to the bottom of the airbox and it fits directly under the headlight. The XR8 snorkal will set you back about $55. Or you could use a 100mm flexible hose with some holders - less costly but more mucking around.

3. Heat Shield: Shield you air box, snorkal and at least the rubber part of the intake tube with simple reflective shield (the same as the front window sunscreens). This reduces the intake temperature by 5-6 degrees and worth about 1-2kw. Cost about $10

4. Venturii Exhaust Assist - Works by reducing the air pressure behind the tail pipe to allow easier exhaust flow - worth about 1-2kw --> cost $10

5. Exhaust fan in the engine bay - there is room enough to mount 4 computer casing fans in the engine bay and micro swith them to the accelrator so they go on when the car is ideling - will keep under bonnet temp lower.

6. Full exhaust - Including extractors (note Advance brand extractors are cheap and good). Get a high flow cat (Magnaflow works well) and a good cat back. Total cost $1200 worth about 8-12kw. NOTE: Confirm with your insurer they can be real bastards. You may want to add different sparks - Autolite Double Plats - expensive: ??Useful.

7. Edit: $1300

That should keep you busy

:D :D

you could also go for a colder thermostat. supposed to be worth a couple of KW at full running temp.

See http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7385 - mines only the XT but mechanically identical to an XR6.
