I use RedLine WaterWetter, Its good stuff.
Above someone says water boils a lot quicker than coolant. You'll find its only about 10deg difference, also as the system is under pressure the boiling point is higher than what it would normally be (ie 100deg at sea level). If your engine is getting to those temps (boiling point) you need to get it sorted out quick smart anyway.

Yeah i would think a 50% eth/gly premix would do the trick. Nothing wrong with using a different coolant so long as you flush the old stuff out REALLY REALLY REALLY well. Hrrrm, ecotec - does this have alloy heads? If so then the hot temps and reactive properties of water woill not have been doing it any favours.

I reckon you're rooting that motor of yours  yes but the system is pressurised so the boilding point of the water is also higher....

I use the Repco premixed, only because it was the closest automotive store when I decided one day to flush out my cooling system, looking back now I wish I had bought one that's common to find in all automotive stores as it'd be easier to get, and probably cheaper as Repco arn't known for low prices. O well, maybe I'll flush it out again!

its not the water id say it could be the thermostat aint workin or you need to give your radiator a clean i mean pull it out and give it a thorough clean of all the crap,cause radiator fluid goes off and creates sedimate which in turn builds up causing your veins to block.

well if you had to put 2 litres of water in it, you have a leak somewhere.
sounds like your thermostat could be clogged up. best bet woudl be to flush the system right out and start with some good coolant.

i think the point has been missed here.
your engine is running hot because of one (or more) of these reasons your radiator is blocked your thermostat has stuck closed your radiator fan is not working your cap is leaking you don't have enough coolent or water in your engine/radiator putting coolent in the water will not reduce engine temps. you car has a problem that needs looking at |

actually putting coolant in will reduce the temp, that's why you put it in, as well as it has corrosion inhibitor.

TECALOY gold i use it has anti freeze/boil properties and inhibitor, water in ur car can get to 180deg only cause its under pressure.

no fight needed.
adding coolent to the water in the system will not reduce the engine temp at all. It can't . It doesn't. and it never will. adding coolent lowers the freezing point of the water, raises the boiling point and helps prevent corrosion. it does not improve the ability of water to absorb heat from an engine. |

coolant also increases the heat transfer between the water and the hot surface, so in fact i believe it actually will lower the temperature, probably not much, but it will.
