The fan belt in the car is dry. Is there anything i can use to get it soudnign normal again. Cheers |

dude, its meant to be dry, if there's any oil or s**t on it, it will slip and start squealing
if it's squealing, it's either loose, or its got s**t on it, so try tightening it, and if that doesnt work, either while the engine is running, (very carefully) rub some wet&dry sandpaper on the parts of the belt that touch the pulleys, spray it with some CRC belt-grip, or get some new fan belts

You can get blelt sprays at most auto stores, dunno what they do though, but i always thought the belt was ment to be dry and gripping! not lubricated

bit of blue greae will fix it up if its dry and not loose.

You can also get chapstick type things of dry grease, just run the car and hold the stick lightly up against the belt. What I've been told anyway.

using any oils or greases is just a bandaid solution for the squeal, IMO all they do is remove the noise, not the problem

Replace the belt/belts. They're not expensive. If ford try and rip you off, get the measurement and go to a proper bearing place.
CRC belt grip is ok but good condition belts properly tentioned shouldnt need it.

belts can be fine and tenioned right, yet make noise. there is nothing wrong with putting a bit of grease or spray on it.

If you want belt lube just some light silicon spray from any parts shop should do it or you can use the motorcraft silicon stick which is a dry lube that's also used for power window channels. If you use the spray once it dries up its twice as bad as before.

nah its not squeaking, its making an noise like its dry. Okay you know a belt is black, well, its dry and its turning gray, you know just before its is going to starting to crack. Thats what mine is doing.
I know they are suppose to be dr so that dont slip but not completely dried out. Cheers fellas. |

nah man, blue grease is the hi-temp stuff for wheel bearings and such. if your going to use grease it has to be rubber safe ie. red. im my opinion i would use either crc or lithium grease

the best thing to do is run a bar of soap over the belt as the car is runnign gets rid of any squeak

a candle will fix it just get any old candle and rub agaist the belt while it is running till the squeak stops
