In the XH ute what drives the distributer? Coz mine dont spin no more. I just need to know for the repair the drive on the dizzy is still ok so must be internal in the engine.

Cheers Cam.

the dizzy is connected to an auxilary shalft in the block which is the then connected to the timing chain.

Just hope you dont have a seized shaft because that equals new motor.

^^^ What he said.

I think you are saying you have already removed the distributor
and the drive pinion and shaft in the dizzy are OK.

Is this correct ??

does the motor still turn over? cos if it does the gear on the aux shaft may have been chewed up (this is what happened to mine)

Hey Jose that sounds exactly like what has happened. Thought I had siezed it but then it came free. Now no action at the dizzy. What is envolved in getting in to change that drive gear? How much of the engine do I have to strip down?

ummmm, from memory:

Drop oil
Remove thermo's
remove alt and power steering brackets
remove timing chain tensioner
remove balancer
remove timing cover
loosen off sump (and then dig around for the bottom chain guide that fell off during above)
undo two "T"type security bits holding acc shaft in
remove acc shaft

repeat above in reverse order (making sure timing chain/cam/crank still line up)
set timing and you should be away.

not the sorta thing you do if your not a mechanic or dont have one REALLY handy i did 90% of mine in my uncles workshop with him explaining each bit step by step

Sweet as does not sound to bad will just get a manual. Where did you get your replacement? Did you have to go genuine?
