Hi, after buying my ED back in june, i was sure that my temperature gauge was faulty, as it would only just go above the bottom line after driving for an hour or so. i replaced both temperature sensors in the thermostat housing.
Now that its gotten hotter(the weather), its been rising more and more, today after driving for about 15 mins in 30degrees with A/C, it was about on half of the halfway on the gauge. And after i switched it off and came back 5 mins later, it jumped up to just below half, but was soon lower after 2 mins of driving.. im just wondering if this is normal? Surely it can't be, because on occasions, after 5-10mins of idleing, the needle inside the gauge would not move at all.. so what your gauge like? P.s its a ED Fairmont |

On my ED the temp gauge sits on the "N" of normal once it's at proper operating temperature. No matter what temp the weather is my gauge never goes beyond the "N" mark....Even when stuck in traffic.

funny that mine (in both eb2's) runs on blue( spac dash) all the time.
but today.....well the wagon went to the "O" IN NORMAL.....which i assume is more normal then your half..........naturally the a/c stresses and places more load on the engine.. hence a higher operating temperature.

Except in summer weather our EB2 ran down the lower end of the scale, but with the warmer weather got higher.
In very hot conditions, loaded with aircon on it got very high, especially in traffic. Good radiator, good coolant flow, good cap, good clutch fan. In the opinion of many others and myself now, the cooling system, specifically the clutch fan, is only marginal on the early e-series. It only takes a little stress and up goes the needle. Checking out other members experiences convinced me that the only permanent cure is to fit thermo fans from the EL-EF models. [Plenty of good guides on this site] I bought a set yesterday and they have a hell of a good flow rate, leave the clutch fan for dead. We couldn't take one more summer with the old setup, too nerve wracking on long trips and usually towing. Cheers Paul

Mines exactly the same. I've converted to thermos and once the temp guage hits dead on half, they come on and down it goes. Love it. Awesome mod.

Your thermostat is stuck open - common problem. Replace it.
