quote="tickford_6"]i just find it interesting to see that you need to try and justify all this crap.
first it percent losses now it what gear. at the end of the day does it even mater? we see all these peak power numbers being posted all the time, then we see the same people posting 1/4 mile times and trap speed and the numbers just don't add up. i like i said befor if dynos were so good and accurate the debate would have never stared in the first place.[/quote] tickford if it is crap and it doesn't matter so why voice ur opinion maybe in future threads do go shooting of ur mouth and think what u actual say in writing ur the one that comes in 95% of the threads all guns blazing and loose the sight of what the thread is all about U never stop to think and on this note read my original posting "Q1. In a Automatic ford E series ( or any other series ) what gear will produce the most kwatts out of the engine ? first , second ,third and fourth gear run on the chassis dyno ? or Q2. In a manual gearbox ford E series ( or any other series ) what gear will produce the most kwatts out of the engine ? first , second ,third fourth and fifth gear run on the chassis dyno ? Q3. what percentages % would the kwatts vary between gears if any variation at all ? Q3a. What percentage from gear 1 to gear 4 on the manual car would the kwatt % be different ??? take a stab and guess ?? Q3b. What percentage from gear 1 to gear 4( overdrive ) on the automatic car would the kwatt % be different ??? take a stab and guess ?? "" no mention of what dyno is the best ! no posting is this correct horsepower on this dyno and last of all why do u think ur such a high authority on the topic cause u have run a few cars on a dyno and cant substantiate if im correct or incorrect for that matter and yet u shoot ur mouth on every topic under the sun cheers

i will start by saying i am not a mechanic and have no experience with dyno's but i always thought there were a lot of other variables that cannot be controlled, such as tyre temp, air temp, tyre pressures and calibration of the dyno. etc etc...
obviously dyno's are calibrated but this must go out as i have seen evidence of this. (d & t exhaust was out for a while) obviously they get recalibrated from time to time but you may happen to catch them at a bad time. however if all cars are done on same dyno and same day then all figures should be able to be compared with each other and all be within 5 - 10%.

Your stuff is truely amazing. Does your software modify data for differing ambient conditions? How does air drag affect results. How many readings have to be logged? Can you post some details of your setup? Could this be done with a picaxe datalogger? PS what gear were you in for these missions.

LOL stockstandard , arguement is finished like the start of thread is asking Q1. In a Automatic ford E sereies ( or any other series ) what gear will produce the most kwatts out of the engine ? first , second ,third and fourth gear run on the chassis dyno ? or Q2. In a manual gearbox ford E sereies ( or any other series ) what gear will produce the most kwatts out of the engine ? first , second ,third fourth and fifth gear run on the chassis dyno ? Q3. what percentages % would the kwatts vary between gears if any variation at all ? Q3a. What percentage from gear 1 to gear 4( overdrive ) on the automatic car wouuld the kwatt % be different ??? take a stab and guess ?? remember guys the same car will be tested within minutes of each graph mode run a ramp up and then a ramp down to take in the interia factor of the respective vehicles , not rocket science cause the same dyno will be used within the same hour of the day testing. so i dont care about the veriation of all the dynos out there in the industry that have veriation readinsg between X amount of kwatts between dyno1 and dynoX Same dyno operater same dyno same day same amount of time between car runs dyno run in standard mode , no X factor adjustments or shootout mode all im interested is measuring kwatts between gears tickford is ok , he has his own opnion and i have mine . cheers

ok there are a few software packages out there that people tinker with ,how good they are ? i have no idea can't comment.
there are many different forms of this software on the net http://www.charm.net/~mchaney/homedyno/ ... girecorder http://www.importtuner.com/tech/0510it_ ... ptop_dyno/ http://www.carobd.com/ http://www.angelfire.com/linux/dyno46/racingdyno.html http://www.gtechpro.com/rr.html here is a site if anyone is interested in making there own inertia car , go kart or Motorcycle Dynamometer. http://www.sportdevices.com/ this site has some very interesting info , may be of interest to some of the go-kart guys out there the inertia car dyno http://www.sportdevices.com/dyno/sp1.htm might be a big unit HOPE U HAVE A HUGE GARAGE as compared to what i have seen around and before u start making one LOL. cheers

Can you also run some comparisons with different modes on the Dyno? Alot of people are sceptical about 'Shootout Mode' on the DD dyno's... Show us how much the operator can/can't fudge results

to try and answer the original question,
in THEORY, the lower the gear, the higher the torque reading multiplyed by engine RPM and some number i cant remember SHOULD equal a higher KW due to the torque multiplucation of the lower gears, and the results should very quite abit between the auto and manual depending if the torque converter is in lockup mode or not, but since i have only ever used engine dynos i cant give a definate answer

When you are in a lower gear the torque multiplication you get is exactly proportional to the decrease in speed, so although torque increases, power remains the same.
