Am about to do head gasket on my EF 6cyl, have been told to use AU gasket as is supposed to be better. Head Reconditioner says if I use AU he will not warrant reco head and must use set supplied by him and the AU is wrong one. Can anyone enlighten me about this issue. Thanks

AU is the one to use. Find a reconditioner who knows what they are talking about.

well that's fair enough,,he's not the only one who won't warrant parts he doesn't supply.
and technically he is correct.

Get new bolts aswell.
Try and get the block taped out to clean the threads out before the head goes on. You can buy a tap and do it yourself or get someone to do it for you. Cheers Dazza |

The AU gasket is less likely, maybe impossible to Blow or leak, if installed to AU Specs using EA to AU new Head bolts, no more money for him from repairs.
See if he will agree to warrant everything including labour except the head gasket. Should he not agree then maybe his workmanship is questionable.

Best tool for the job is one of the old head bolts. Make a cut up the side of the thread with an angle grinder and use it to clean the threads in the block.
