I know the BA turbo bottom end would be the pick but hard to get 2nd hand and pricey.
What would be the next best? Are the EF XR6 bottom end the same as standard EF -AU Falcon? Just require a new bottom end for my EF XR6 and I have a spare EF falcon std engine already will it's bottom end be ok to reco for the EF XR top end? |

the stock short motor is the same as the XR short motor all changes were from the headgasket up..
no reason you can't reco the stocko one and use that. do you have plans for big power later on?? this is the time to build the right short motor for it |

But at the moment will just need to get a stand in motor as my XR6 motor is leaking a little oil from rear of motor and I think it maybe leaking oil from headgasket via lifter gallery as #2 cylinder is off colour on plug. This Iam assuming as it has good compression still but using about 2-3litre's a month. The motor has done 225 000k's and hasn't had the headgasket changed yet. It is not getting hot nor any water in oil. It is also reading poor oil pressure at idle when warm and will go to just past half gauge driving. When cold it reaches 2nd last mark and sits just under half way at idle. Havn't time to pull of road to fix and would prefer to put a motor in ready to go then rebuild my original XR motor for spare or when I sell the vehicle. |

i'd give the spare engine a quick re-ring and bearing and oil pmp and timing set. have your XR head reco'd and put that it.
use an AU gasket have about 40thou taken of the head. that'l bring the compression up and offer a bit better feal economy then you will have a spare engine still that you can build up properly for the turbo setup. |
