Howdy
I was just looking at my ED with the intention of changing the temp sensor as the guage doesn't work and I noticed a difference between my ED and an EB2 I have. In the first shot what is the circled bit (ED) and do I need one of the things that are circled on the EB 2? In the second shot, what is the circled bit? This is EB 2. The wiring for the thing is there, just not connected (of course) on the ED. Cheers RD

Must be an early EB II - my EB II didnt have that Vacuum switch and stuff.
As far as I can recall - that was used on earlier falcons to switch vacuum, sending the A/C to recirculate mode when the engine got real hot. As for the ED one... thats the Temp. Sensor for the Climate Control. If you dont have that, you will have a blanking plug. Cheers Nigel |

first one is a temp sensitave vacume tree, used for things like egr valves ect for pollution control. second is a temp sensor all falcons need a working one of these as it to is a emmisions control piece . it tells ecu what temp engine is and how much fuel to inject allong with the other components of the efi system. correct me if im wrong but it also operates the gauge

I would suggest you remove the one on the ED, and replace it with the other type, as that way the ECU will get the info it needs.

the vac tree in the first pic is from ea or eb1..
as nigel said above its for the airconditioning ..when the engine temp rises above 100 deg it opens and switches the aircon to recirculate for some reason?(for some reason its in the wrong position on the housing as ea and eb1 still need that sensor in the 2nd pic?) and you deffinatly need the one in the 2nd pic conected or your car will run like a shagy dog lol.. that one is for the ecu to know what the coolant temp is.. |

I was just thinking about this - was the EA a CPI or MPI car? - or did it possibly have a webber carb swapped in????
Your right - the sensor is the ECU Temp - and I know the MPI Needs it. I wasnt sure about the CFI car though. Nigel |

Thanks everyone
I had never seen one of those doohickeys that is on the ED whereas pretty much every falcon I have looked at has the same unit as the EB II has. Hell, even my CFI 3.9 had one! I'll install one and see if it cures the absolutely horrible cold start issues the ED currently has. Cheers RD

Well, I installed a sensor from another engine and it made some difference. The engine fired first time from cold (a first since getting it home!) and idled better than it had before. This is a vast improvement. Still no temp gauge though, even after replacing the sender as well. Oh well, off to investigate the cluster or the wiring.
Cheers RD

cheers Yup, I know - I replaced that sender as well due to the temp gauge not working. That is why I was under the bonnett in the first place and notice the other sensor. Seems I fixed a problem I didn't know I had but didn't fix the original one! Cheers RD
