Pulled the inlet manifold off the old engine today and found something I have never seen before:
It sits above the coil pack and plugs into the manifold loom. You can see here the relationship of it to the coil pack and oil pressure sender: What has me concerned is that the other EF engine I have to go in does not have the same sort of arrangement. Yes, it has a place to screw this into but it is not open to the inside of the block (which I *think* this one is, why else would it be there?) As always, help appreciated. Cheers RD

Thats your Knock sensor dude its basically what keeps the engine at the right ignition timing so pull this off and definately put it on the new motor as you NEED IT!!!

sorrry to hi jack the forum but is the knock sensor really important...will it effect the car allot if it is not connected?
reason im asking is because i just put a ef motor in my eb and didnt connect up the knock sensor ad it runs like a bag of crap under load, could this be why?

Have you tried connecting it to see the difference? |

Its not majorly important.
If your engine is pinking with normal fuel then it is advisable to plug it up. A lot of people disconnect the knock sensor advance the timing (el) and run premium to get a little but more bite.

What ECU are you running? If it's an EB/ED ECU theres nowhere to plug the knock sensor into anyway.

IIRC the hole it screws into doesnt go anywhere, ie it just screws into the side of the block not through it.
if your new motor has a hole there, fit it up. -mitch

I found that out after I stuck a screwdriver into the hole on the original engine. The sensor is now fitted to the replacement in it's rightful place Cheers RD
